Thread Summary
The forum thread delves into the use of city nicknames to uncover location confirmers in the puzzle book "The Secret: A Treasure Hunt." Users discuss potential connections between found casques and city nicknames, such as Chicago's "City of Big Shoulders" and P5's depiction of big shoulders. There is debate over the accuracy and relevance of certain nicknames, with a focus on Cleveland's "Forest City" nickname. Some users question the validity of this nickname, while others argue for its enduring significance. The thread also explores the relationships between city nicknames and specific images in the book, with mentions of cities like San Francisco, Montreal, and New Orleans. Additionally, there are discussions about the subjective nature of nicknames, the challenges of ensuring accuracy in online sources like Wikipedia, and the ongoing search for buried casques.

While trying to find more location confirmers in the P's I thought about city nicknames. By no means am I claiming this to be fact but let's look at a few of them. First the found casques:
*Chicago = yes, the windmill may represent "The Windy City" but Chicago is also called "City of Big Shoulders" and I would say P5 sure does depict big shoulders.
*Cleveland = one of the more popular names is "The Forest City" and P4 is definitely set in a forest.
.......concrete theories......
*Milwaukee =
"Cream City"-P is cream colored, "City of Steeples"- city hall depiction shows prominent steeples...etc...
*San Fran = "Chinatown" not only is a part of the city but also one of its nicknames. P1 definitely chinese looking. another nick is "Fogtown" and background of P1 appears quite foggy.
*N.O. = "Crescent City" P7 has crescent shaped turquoise.
*N.Y. = "Empire City" kind of going along with my theory that the church outline may not be a specific church but may just represent "empire".
just yet another path to wander down with a possibility of either leading us forward on our quest or ending at another disappointing dead end.

*Montreal = "City of Saints" hand positioning in P9 seems saintlike and may be from a famous St's statue or painting....

I have lived less than 30 miles from Cleveland for my entire life and not one time have I EVER heard it referred to as "The Forest City."
Never.
Where did this bit of trivia come from? Wiki? It figures. I have to tell you--that is so wrong it's laughable.
The Mistake on the Lake, maybe--but "Forest City?"
Never
.

These are common. SF is not known as Chinatown by anyone. However, it does have a Chinatown district -- every major city has a Chinatown in it. SF also has a Little Italy and a Japantown too.

The nickname seems to have been out of fashion for quite some time.

My point exactly, Forest. But it's not just "out of fashion"--it's such minor trivia I'll wager no one even
knows
it. I am over half a century old--surely sometime during this last 55 years I'd have heard of this name as a nickname--but I haven't. No one in over 100 years has used such a nickname for Cleveland. It's not "popular" in the slightest. The only remnant of the Forest City moniker, such as it is, is the Forest City Building Materials company, which has since expanded to California, Colorado, New York, Indiana.....and has such an invisible presence in this area now that I had to search their website just to find the address of their corporation. There USED to be stores all over--now, they're gone; and they took what name they used with them.
And if the Wiki article about the sports team (from the 1800's!) is even half accurate, the nickname never caught on. Only someone who has lived here for a length of time would know that--so I'm guessing the Wiki edits were done by someone not from this area, who only got his/her info from some source who also didn't live here, etc. etc.
This is why I tend not to trust Wiki. It's soooooooooo subjective!
This whole thing about city nicknames showing up in the images seems tenuous at best to me. Nicknames come and go. They go in and out of style, and they are as subjective as the Wiki articles seem to be. Some of you seem to be somewhat fixed on being as accurate as possible with these images and the verses; I can't imagine this added much actual "evidence", especially when it can't be said to be at all accurate.
Not to sound critical, I hope--just an observation.

You disagree about what? That I've never heard the nickname used? I wonder how you can disagree with what I've heard or not?
Or you disagree that Wiki is subjective? That you're welcome to disagree with. Won't change my mind. It's subjective.
If there's something else you're disagreeing with, then I suppose you have that right as well. Why say so without elaboration, however?

I do not disagree with the fact that you have never heard the name before. Disagreeing with that would simply be rediculous.
I do not disagree with the fact that Wiki "tends" to be subjective. This does not mean that everything posted there is rubbish however.
I disagree with the fact that your reasoning behind city nicknames showing up is tenuous because "Nicknames come and go. They go in and out of style, and they are as subjective as the Wiki articles seem to be." Nicknames come but I feel they never go...you or your friends or your family may not have heard it before but that does not lessen its validity. Whether you have heard it or not...Cleveland WAS called Forest City (and may still be called that by others). I sure wouldnt liken FB's
hxxp://ech.case.edu/ech-cgi/article.pl?id=FC3
to a wiki though.
Statues come and go also...I just hope a casque wasnt buried next to a now non-existant statue since that would say the casque never existed either. The only way we are going to (and have been for the past 5 or so years) zero in on our next casque is by "being as accurate as possible with these images and the verses".
and...like you: Not to sound critical, I hope--just an observation.
Keep digging folks...it is only a matter of time until the next big day....

Well, there...see...that cleared it up. Thanks.

Just wanted to bump this topic back to the top. I am once again looking into this possibility (sorry shecrab
). I am currently focusing on nicknames that fit this:
blank
City.
Windy City - Chicago (with the windmill in the I)
Forest City - Cleveland (with obvious forest in I)
Star City - Roanoke VA (bright star outside of window?)
Puritan City - Boston (who the heck knows)
Ancient City , Old City - St Augustine (???fountain of YOUTH in Old City??? lol)
Crescent City - NO (crescent shapes all throughout I)
Magnolia City , Space City , Bayou City - Houston (not sure about the magnolia but maybe the pillared orb is earth with the moon or star above?)
Real City , Sin City - Montreal (?)
May mean nothing but the 2 casques found seem to be pretty convincing to me. Seems like another nice way to hide the locations in the images.

For the sake of completeness, people around here call SF "The City"
