prospector

Hello, I am new to this group. I studied Image 1 and the Verse 7 after I saw a post about possible San Francisco Golden Gate Park site of one of the Preiss boxes. I then spent hours and hours looking at the image and the area of Golden Gate Park. I saw a lot of things that could match up. I then studied the verse. It didn't make that much sense but the Golden Gate Park just seemed right to me. Then I search the internet for all the proposed ideas and clues. I was surprised at how I had come up with some of the same ideas. But I was amazed at how many clues I had that were way off from everyone I read about. I must say I am a little lost. I am not near some of the most talked about places. I am now going to go through and see where people have dug in the Park and see if I can get some more ideas to narrow down my search. Questions: is there a list of unsuccessful digs? I read about some. How do you get a permit? Are people digging without a permit?

prospector

I wish I could figure out how to edit or delete the post. I went to the FAQ and still can't see how to do this. Thanks for your welcome.

burnstyle

I dont think you can delete a post once someone has replied to it.

JoshCornell

ive dug without permits. in charleston i just wore a yellow vest and a few curious people asked what was up but they were into it...did the same in houston despite all claims of them watching (just wait till they leave at 6...you can do the same in ggp but there are parks police so depending on where the location is or not...but ggp makes it pretty easy to get a permit despite the fact they denied me last time lol)

funsun

It would be nice to have a separate thread for each of the images and then a list of all the places that were dug up.

funsun wrote:: It would be nice to have a separate thread for each of the images and then a list of all the places that were dug up. I am very new to this site but here is my 2 cents. I did start a list but I haven't posted it because it is really just a few digs I really know little about. I got a real kick out of a woman with such great clues who went to dig but didn't have any luck. I agree that it would be great to have a list by image/verse digs, but I think it would be difficult to do that because I have heard there are many digs that were done without permission. I have read a lot of the posts in some of the threads that pertain to Image 1 Verse 7 and I had to weed through a lot of back and forth that doesn't make that much sense to me. I get sort of lost. I have private messaged a few people and I got some good responses. Most of the people on here are really cool. I followed some of the solves on another site called, I think, PBworks. It is set up in a similar way but it seems like some of the posts are deleted or only go in one direction. I was sure one of the people that dug at the top of some stairs (giant pole) in Golden Gate Park should have found the casque. But he didn't. He believes the casque was paved over. It is worth reading about that dig. I sort of like when people try solves and I get to read about digs. I was very interested in a place in San Francisco near Aquatic Park and then I read about a dig there and it just didn't work out. Then I read about one up at the Legion of Honor. This makes so much sense to me and there have been some digs there, with no success. But I don't think I would give up on that one yet. I know people have dug in spots by the Cliff House and one by some place where a totem pole sort of structure was in Golden Gate Park. Sorry for rambling. I really don't feel comfortable commenting on the really old threads. It just feels like I don't belong to that history. Some of them have been on this site and talking about The Secret since 2003 or longer. I have a lot of catching up to do. It can be very confusing and a daunting task. This is a huge group with lots of different treasure hunts. I guess I can post the digs I have recorded from the things I have read and I might get some responses, corrections and new information. I have scouted out Golden Gate Park and have been having a lot of fun. I have learned just how big that park is. I also have a theory on the longitude and Latitude of the 37/38 and -112/-113 but I am still working on that. I didn't know how that ever worked and didn't know a frigging thing about longitude or latitude until I read The Secret and started actively mapping out a solve. Well that is all for now. best

erexere

Even though I know of a a few digs with permission at GGP and the Legion, I cant say I agree with the strength of those solutions. If it helps any, over the years, I've formed the opinion that nobody including myself has gone about this puzzle in the right way. Theres been a lot of good research and worthwhile digs based on their lines of thinking, but one very big piece of real evidence just hasnt been produced and none of the shreds seem to go anywhere either. One thing I am really sure about is that Twain really had written about everything. Whatever object of Twain's attention is, there's just no guessing to help us narrow things down. Good Luck.

Meteor

Hi everybody ! I am very happy to join these hunts (BTW, I still wonder the title of the book : " A treasure hunt" : as for me there are 12 hunts in one book...) I would like, if I may, to introduce me shortly. I happen to have found 37 armchair treasures hunts written by more than 25 authors since 1985, in France and Great Britain. I just "dig" puzzles and... holes ! I don't want to swagger about it, it is just information. I earned more than 440.000 US$ until now. My pseudo in France is also "Meteor", and it comes from the discovery of the first organized treasure hunt in my country after deciphering the riddles of a book which title is "Phil Meteor". My father was american (he unfortunately died in 1973), that's why my english is better than other french men, lol... I am looking for "the secret" for about 2 months. It may look a short time, but I don't need a lot of hours sleeping. I have read most of what was published for years, and you know what ? It is very useful to read what others published yet ;-) My opinion is that a lot of pairs made with Images and Verses are wrong. Believe me or not, but I think I have solved NYC 100 %, unfortunately the zone can't be approached during some months, according to works nearby the final spot. The spot in New Orleans is solved in my mind close to 99%, but I'm afraid hurricane Katrina could have changed very important clues... About Montreal, I was surprised it took such a long time for searchers to find the change in the image of JJP : the switch of "fleur de lys" with... who knows (except me, lol again) ;-) ? Anyway, I discovered 100% sure the meaning of the drawing with X and the so-called runes. Unfortunately, it disappeared a few years ago, and it will be hard to find it now. I'm afraid the spot matching with all the clues is lost forever because of works on it... One can never be sure of his or her solutions until the casque is digged out ! But as for me again, the easiest quest was in North Carolina... if one choose the good Verse... I never had a look to any other location, except in Florida. I discovered elegant founds, far from what had been published... just because once more of a wrong Verse matching with the Image. To make it brief, again, I am really happy to look after these hunts, because in France we have only one hunt undiscovered for the moment (only for more than 25 years : ridiculous compared with the secret ;-) and called "on the way to the golden owl". I still hope to find it, but it is really a hard job ! I am sure that our ways (I mean European vs US) of searching the puzzles are definitely different, probably according to our DNA, or how we have been formated at school. I forgot to tell you that I am a MD (not Mental Deficient, lol) and PhD at the Medical University of Angers, France. I have been invited YESTERDAY to a convention that will take place in San Francisco around March 2019. This is why I will start looking at that one ASAP. To be frank, I don't agree a lot with the solutions proposed yet, even if the chosen park looks great, may be too much indeed ! Having done myself some treasure hunts as an author, I can tell you that red herrings MUST be placed if you don't want a very fast discovery ! If I may help, I am sorry not to tell anybody all that I found until now, but keep in mind that verses are not in the right order... And knowing the history of European countries is VERY useful, and Mr PB was well informed about it, obviously ! Last hints tonight (yes, it is 5 am in my country !) : do you know what can mean "sound" ? And have you heard about Lorelei ? That's all folks ! I wish everybody happy hunts ! See you soon !

Spiritr

I can personally guarantee you there's nothing in North Carolina.

JoshCornell

wait disappeared? now i know youre wrong cause they are both still there. the p shaped rune marks rue peel and is located on mcgill campus and a block to the right (if facing mount royal) is the underground reservoir with the backwards L shaped rune on it (and whats a backwards shaped L, which means lake, mean? an invisible lake in the form of said underground reservoir! which is what it marks)....so much for your theory, eh? (the x is on the building that drnknerds found btw, and is still there) also stands for something else as well...back to the drawing board?

Spiritr wrote:: sorry to interrupt , but I really do have trouble operating a shovel, if you or anyone have any advice beside hire someone else to do the task, please share. Hi Spiritr, Working with a shovel in general isnt too hard for me, but I've found the soil conditions of where Im digging to be the most challenging factor. The ground might have higher clay content ir be severely dry, which will make it tougher. You might try a smaller shovel. Definitely team up with one or two other people if you can. Working solo can be too burdensome. And bring a tarp for catching the excavated soil and keeping things neat and tidy. Good luck.

Hi everybody ! It's 5:30 am in my country ! I read very carefully what was posted since yesterday, after I wrote my very first post here. Well, I am sure that the man who deciphered a so called-rune looking like a "p" being a street spelt with a "p" as the first letter can't be wrong, because such an opportunity seldom happens, according to the few words starting with this very rare letter. And the non-explanation of why a rune and not the hundreds ways to make it more obvious using a lot of codes, looks a very good match with Jules Verne's "Journey to the Center of the Earth" (BTW, this is what I call a big hole !) I agree with the letter "L" being the first letter of the word "Lake"... (I would be stupid to deny it, obviously !) but there are a lot of others. It's a pity there is no other explanation for it ! It is incredible not to dig out the casque with such informations, and, icing on the cake, give these informations to everybody who could be no fair-play at all and dig out first... I bet there are only very nice people involved in the hunts and who won't move after the wonderful publishment of the solution. Well, I will try to publish a picture of what, IMHO (we often use this acronym in France, because we all need to be very HUMBLE and can't criticize (or in a funny way !)) where is or unfortunately were the right spot. No more there, in tears... To conclude, here is my favorite sentence about the "gang leaders" and what they say or write before never discovering anything, just because they are never wrong (only in their mind !) : "When I hear what I hear, and when I see what I see (or read), I am very happy to think what I think !" Once more today ! I feel sorry (meaning I pity) for those poor people... Happy huntings to all of you !

JoshCornell

yo need to read more carefully and learn more about runes the p is the shape of a street OFF of rue peel designating it, while the the half an arrow is the rune that represents L backwards in runic language L stands for Lake therefore the backwards rune for L is telling us to look for a backwards lake, and we find the reservoir designating mactavish (with the actual rune on top of it in the form of a path)...if we follow this block down from mount royal starting at the allen memorial mental institute at the royal victoria, we come to dorchester square and place du canada which parallels location of GSH. verse starts us at corner of sherbrooke and peel and takes us to the racetrack on notre dame island. you the place du canada sticking out of the GSM, pointing us down peel to the waterfront, we turn here to get to habitat 67 via lower square which takes us through griffintown where the first balloon flight in canada (referenced in the verse) takes place. you were saying?

JoshCornell

i wouldn't be the first fair-brained person to meet such a fate

JoshCornell

unfortuntaely this message has self destructed...

Meteor

Hi there, a lot of miles away ! I definitely respect all the ideas, but sometimes I make some reserves often starting with : "IMHO", what doesn't look to be the way of some of searchers here (this is much more often used by those who discovered at least one treasure...) I just wonder, once more, WHY the casque isn't digged out yet with so nice discoveries ? You know what ? I think having made a great step today in understanding this specific treasure. And I am not proud of it, just because if you are half-french and half-american, Montreal and New Orleans are much easier to decipher. Of course, one must take some time to read and understand the other 206 pages of the book, just because if you don't, you will never find anything else than... Chicago and Cleveland, already found ! And please, "Mr. I found everything, and you are just a fool, despite what you have discovered yet" , stay humble and open-minded. Or find a treasure : you can't imagine what happens in your brain at that moment. I often told reporters on telly, or newspapers, or radio : "it is a kind of climax no one can imagine". This are these moments I wish to everybody. Anyway, I thank you very much to make me decide that I really WANT to find it first, just to prove that running down, or denigrate other players (yes, it is a game, just in case you didn't understand that also) is one of the worse thing to do... And the very worse thing to do is being a boaster, a braggart, a swaggerer... so one can tell you some day : "ah, so you're not so pleased with yourself now ?" Take care ! You should hurry now, I'll be there within the next 6 months ! I hope you know swimming : it would be a great lost, after a great waste, to sink once more...

JoshCornell

please note you entered as a bogart and a braggart (noting how much youve cashed in on armchair treasure hunts), thats not what its about for me...so it is what it is lol. perhaps you should consider reflecting on statements made toward me, eh??? just a thought im just telling you...ive already finished it (as in discerned the location of the treasure, a test hole is even partially dug as final marker has been removed), you can make of that what you will. but like your entrance. it is what it is. glad you got to read the self destructed message but i want you to realize that i do this to honour the memory of byron preiss and show people the brilliance of the design of his puzzles. so if anything is going to bring the competitor out in me...it's going to be coming up against someone like you

JoshCornell

you just challenged me to something ive already completed, makes no sense...

I am very sorry to have waste my precious time with people who began insane, mad, and crazy. I should have thought of it, according to numbers of same insanity, madness or to speak like a doctor (I am !) dementia, in France too... I won't respond anymore to people that I realize now are 100% mad... Sorry for honorable folks reading these diagnoses : forget it, but keep in mind that sometimes treasure hunts make someones becoming crazy...

JoshCornell

im a braggart cause i worked incredibly on hard on this with no expectation of reward, and have broken the entire model of the puzzle including the majority of hunts, while being shittalked incessently by goldengate and the doofuses who buy into his loser campaign against me)...guy enters basically assuming he can get it (after i already have and released all the info on it...pfft) while lauding claims of all the mad bux he made off busting euro treasure hunts. i mean, if you do anything in the 6 months its either going to be wrong or stealing my spot lol...so im over it.

i am! ive done an incredbile amount of work today lol. inclding finding one of the most major clues so its cool man...chillllllll....XD

JoshCornell

i didnt enter assming i could get it...my very first posted was 75% of sf absolutely correct. thankfully it was deleted lol. my very first post on nyc was correct my very first post on roanoke was correct my very first post on charleston...i fell for the trap...but fixed it soon as i went there (same with houston). ive admitted my errors but ive always been on the right track and made no claims other than what id already done, which i released. only reason i dont tell anyone anything is because of how poorly i was treated by certain people. everyone who is heavily invested in solving this knows im right (though they may not get why)...the rest dont really matter to me lol...

JoshCornell

...and this meteor guy, f**k this meteor guy...if hes so good he better figure that shit out tout de suite. cause hes fighting against the forward progression of time itself lol...

Meteor

Nice to read you, Goldengate ! I bet you and me agree 100% about those that are called in French (and English too, I'm sure) : mythomaniacs or compulsive liars, and megalomaniacs... Well, I heard so many times these stories that I wonder why I didn't inform yet my psychiatrist colleagues about treasure hunts to diagnosis most of them. I am always amazed they don't take time to check the truth about my own discoveries ! Wonder why Google exists ;-) ? According to your pseudo, I can tell you that I will be in SF next year, at least from 22nd to 25th of February. As soon as I hope to have found the Canadian casque, a friend of mine will check my answers, even if I'm afraid of what could have happened during the last 36 years... It will be my pleasure to meet you in SF, whatever the resolving of clues by then. I would be very happy to invite you in a nice restaurant, just because I am sure you are SANE and interesting. Best regards, Gerald

According to to the silly sentences I read here, I just paste here a part of press magazine like "Time magazine" who came in my city to interview me... : "... So why has nobody found the owl? Valentin shrugs: « Good question. I have no idea. Reading the messages I get on my screen I will see one and think, ah, here is a guy who is on the right track and then four or five days later I find him on another track that is wrong. People take three steps forward and two back. » If anyone can find the owl it is Gerald Gay and Valentin takes great delight in Dr Gay’s lack of success — « You should ask him why he hasn’t found it, » he chuckles. Valentin regularly sends Gay messages teasing him about his lack of success, but he says Gay is the best treasure hunter in France. Gay is one of the more lucid hunters , but there are degrees of madness « Dr Gay is dangerous to people who set hunts , » says Valentin. « Mr Valentin said that about me? » Asks the doctor puffing with pride. He does not look dangerous, this immunologist, sitting in his treasure hunting room in the town of Angers, an hour and a half by train from Paris. To date he has found six treasures and made about £100,000 from his hunts. He has been hot on the trail of the owl since the day the book was published. Gay does not hesitate to follow up a lead in his hunt for the owl. There is not a minute of the day when he is not looking for it: « I think about it all the time: when I’m working, or driving my car, or reading a book, or watching TV or now, speaking to you, I may have an inspiration. » One can’t help wondering where this commitment stops. Every weekend or holidays I only work on treasure hunts I tell you that I sometimes work 20 hours non-stop on a riddle does that make me crazy? » Adds the doctor at the end of our meeting: « The three most important treasures in my life are my wife and two children. He admits: « It is like being a drug addict. When I find a solution it is like a climax in my head. To be frank I think I will find it. Max has said I am in the top five people looking for it. » This paper was published more than 20 years ago, and I found a lot of treasures since then... I am sorry for those who can't decipher riddles. It is in my DNA, sorry again.

The line was crossed the line a long time ago. Dignity and kindness were lost to self-important madness. Talking about oneself has become the priority along with talking about others and making cheap digs. What happened with exchanging ideas about the puzzle and assessing our progress? SF has a dozen or more different starting points depending on what someone identifies for stonewall's door or ace is high or giant pole, etc. Its tough to sort out what people are talking about given their different attitudes towards the puzzle. I cant tell who agrees with who these days or what one thing might be a certainty. We are far far from solving this.

Goldngate, Someone, not a q4t member, convinced me of such a suprising discovery that its a good thing to disagree with almost everything I've said. I think I mightve said at least one thing along the way that could be left in the record, but the rest needs to be purged. The discovery has to do with Twain and it has remained unmentioned on these boards. All I can say is that these puzzles are full of suprises and I dont think its a bad thing for people to drift to the extreme edges of their creative worlds. Twain is a facinating figure... Is the Japanese material all fully translated to people's satisfaction? I have a friend who translates exceptionally well if there is any uncertainty.

Spiritr

Unknown: I know Spirtr also does some translating, but he has yet to release his work... from what he says he's quite good so I hope he decides to be open and transparent rather than holding it to himself. I believe I already made it very open and transparent. I even did a follow up post regards to my translation so the board can fully understand. of that particular line I translates, the orthography editing and proofreading alone took me 2 hours. and again, to anyone who don't understand how hard it is, there are words that you just can't understand by verbally translations. Using the word "china" as example, and everything was written in lower case letter, you can understand it as a country, at the same time you can also define it as porcelain ceramics.

Is this what BP maybe said to the barking dogs, or to the police before he hid from them, while burying the casques? I do not want to hijack this thread with this type of banter, however, it's gone on long enough and needs to stop. Aren't there other types of forums or chat rooms where this behavior would be more suited? Go Sox!

Goldengate wrote:: Cute. It's possible to be accurate, but also to be clear. That's what Burnstyle's translator did very well... and also mine. You don't agree with their translations, so the best way to put your findings forward is to craft your translations so that they can be compared in a clear manner. Yes it's difficult and there are varying ways to interpret... but that's what professional translators do. If you are unable, that's totally okay. I think you're smart and I believe you understand what I'm saying. It's totally your decision whether you choose to present your translations or not. If anyone have any questions regarding the Japanese book, a specific Verse or line, let me know, I'll try my best to show you all the possible meaning. But honestly, NOBODY can 100% translate the author's riddle and hidden message, especially from Japanese to English. Unless the author(translator) provide the translation himself. that post of mine was to show you as an example of how the Japanese book looks like. I never said anything wrong regarding Burnstyle's translator or yours, both translations were accurate "verbally. But as a professional translator, I am able to tell you those aren't just words that you simply read out verbally.

I am back ! It is really funny to notice that wherever there is a treasure hunt, some crazy people are just "trash" and it looks like a pleasure for them to spoil others. As for me, those people should be in a psychiatric center at least. Please, take it easy : fools will never go anywhere out of their dreams (or nightmares, who really knows ?) Serious people ALWAYS are the winners, and it is the most important thing to know. I wish someone could sink in his crazy lake, it would be the best for nice people ! It's a pity because "the fool on the hill" wasn't so far from the solution : a pity again to be mad ! And he will "se morde les couilles" "d'être aussi con, si près de la solution..." "years pass, rain falls" and there is no link at all with the hunts we are talking about ! But it is funny to notice the idiots will always look at a clue where you are just making humour ! I am amazed with those who believe that clever people will give a hard hint to the stupid ones !

"I wish someone could sink in his crazy lake!" That's today's phrase that pays. Cha-Ching!

Meteor wrote:: According to to the silly sentences I read here, I just paste here a part of press magazine like "Time magazine" who came in my city to interview me... Why so much editing? Meteor hxxp://ilotresor.com/article-du-times-saturday-magazine/ The bragging has gotten to me.
