Thread Summary
The forum discussion centers around a treasure hunt involving jewels hidden in various locations, with two out of 12 already found in Chicago and Cleveland. The jewels are gemstones redeemed by finding a decorative casque and key, not buried themselves. While the jewels were appraised at $18,000 collectively when buried, their individual values remain unknown. Participants emphasize that the hunt is more about the thrill of solving the mystery than monetary gain. Some users share the values of their found jewels, with one mentioning theirs is worth less than $1000. There is a debate on whether contributors to solving the hunt should receive a share if someone finds a jewel using their ideas, touching on the philosophical aspect of idea sharing and deserving credit for contributions. Users like Voltaire express that the experience of the hunt is invaluable regardless of monetary rewards. Overall, there is a consensus that participating in the hunt and sharing ideas is rewarding in itself, irrespective of potential financial gain.

How much is each "jewel" worth and which jewels have been found? Is there a solution posted of which jewels have been found and with which pages (so that I can mark those off)? Do the jewels resemble any type of animal or anything? Are the treasures still buried?
drewsmith
Take a look at the thread called "what has been found". (The quick answer is that 2 of the 12, in Chicago and Cleveland, have been found.)

and the other quick answers are that the jewels are gemstones, but they aren't buried. You dig up a casque with a decorative key, which you redeem for the associated jewel.
whatuhhyeah
the jewels haven't been appraised?

Also, is it clear which puzzles in the book have been solved, in other words which jewels have been found like in a treasure trove?

As was already just posted in this thread, the puzzles for Chicago and Cleveland were solved. You'll find details in the "what has been found?" thread, which tells you which images and verses related to Chicago and Cleveland.
There is no treasure trove, and the jewels themselves were not buried. What was buried at each of the 12 locations was a decorative casque and key.

At the time the casques were buried, the jewels were appraised at a value of $18,000. This does not tell us the value of any particular jewel (among the 12), nor does it tell us the current value.
You'll find more details in the "what has been found?" thread. I think you'll find that many of your questions are already answered there.

hey there what.... This hunt is kind of similar to ATT but not really. There are tons of posts explaining what has been found and what are the most popular theories of the moment. I believe the jewels shown in the P's are the ones redeemed to the finder. Unlike ATT, if you are in this hunt to get rich...well, dont think that will happen. Those of us regulars on this board are happy to share any and all ideas just for the sake of solving The Secret. Cracking the codes of a 20+ year old hunt is treasure enough for us.
welcome!!!!

I think egbert posted somewhere that his jewel was worth less than $1000.

ps., if you're in this for the money, get out now. you'll never break even.

I agree with your "p.s."
As for your first sentence --- to me, it's priceless.
wilhouse
Egbert, yes, I know it's priceless. I couldn't agree more.

Oh hell.... Just looking for the gems has been priceless.
But, on the other hand, if anyone uses my ideas to find the SF gem, I certainly think I deserve a cut.

Now, that's a deep philosophical thought...
Go back and review all the posts on both this verse and the image. Make a list of everyone that has contributed, no matter how small. Now, does everyone deserve a cut? Why or why not? All of today's ideas were built on yesterday's.
I have no answers and have been plagued by this question for at least a year.
Egbert and Fox and Catherwood a bunch of other people deserve a cut of EVERY jewel that is ever found! sigh...

I speak only for myself, but personally I would be inclined to let the person who puts in the effort to dig up the casque decide what to do with the proceeds, as was done with the Cleveland casque. Many people contributed (in small or large ways) to that solution, yet no one would dispute Egbert's right to do whatever he sees fit with the jewel. If memory serves, he made a donation to the Greek Cultural Garden. I intend to do the same sort of thing if I ever unearth something on Roanoke. In the meantime, I share ideas with no expectation of compensation down the road.

and Forest, that is the beauty I have found in this hunt, in this site and with the other people on this board! I believe this is the way most of us feel.

Found this on webshots. The late, great Byron Preiss - he will be missed.

Not sure where else to post this.
I have been reading Paolini's Eragon (movie out soon). He named a valley "Palencar," after our beloved artist. Apparently, Palencar did the cover.

If there are no jewels any more and I cant imagine a finder selling the casque - what exactly are you thinking a "cut of"?
Malted falcon.

Matt - (good to see you return to the forum, BTW!) - at the time Voltaire wrote that (almost 2 years ago), it was not at all clear what the deal was with the jewels. BP had just passed on. In fact, it's still not clear. My understanding was that the jewels are currently in the possession of BP's family, but whether or not they can still be won is in doubt. The official solutions are apparently lost.

Thanks forest - nice to be missed.
Even back then though, can you imagine finding the casque, getting the jewel and then selling either? whatever they're valued at, until they are sold they would have a net value of zero.
