I have come under some pressure recently over disagreements on this forum.
I have always found Treasure Hunting to be a fun intellectual hobby.
Occasionally I have had to deal with Trolls who, in the main, we have seen off.
When hunters who have previously been working together fall out it becomes more of a problem.
I have always tried to maintain a light management touch on the board and only deleting post as a final resort.
In trying to deal with a recent problem I have deleted some posts.
Hopefully I have not removed too much vakuble information that can't be posted again.
I have editted the offensive subject on a large number of posts in the same thread.
Please play nicely, if you have a problem let me know early on so I can try and put a stop to it.
I don't treasure hunt anymore but have kept the board going for those that do.
Hunters often offer to take over the board, which I have consider this but I think that more problems could ensue when there are conflicts.
So, once again, I am sorry for any data loss, please play nicely and enjoy this great hobby.

Thanks Mark for all you do,
This board is a wonderful place.
I'm sure we will all make a concerted effort to be civil.

but you are a disservice to this community Careful Josh. You are way out of line here. Mark Parry owns the Forum, and we all participate at his pleasure. If you don't like his rules, or the way he runs things, you are free to leave at any time.

whine to your mothers instead...buncha little bitches... Mark, thank you for everything. This board has been the source of much enjoyment for me and so many others over many years.
I know you do not owe us anything, but if I could ask just one favor - can you please consider banning this troll calling himself Josh Cornell?
He is nothing more than a donkey's behind, and is ruining this forum with his posts.
Thank you.

is there a way to add a "Like" or a "Dislike" button, that way if new user comes on the board it'll be much easier for them to understand what's useful and what's not.
I've seen other phpBB BBS have those buttons...some even can put rating on a post

I thought this thread was about Xenophon's book on Socrates...oh well.
It's been fun to work on these puzzles with the many strongish personalities on this board. It's too bad there's been a lot of misconduct and crybabyness. I blame the pbwiki.

As a lurker of the board, thanks Mark for running things! I appreciate the work to build this community.
(Unlike some others, I wish you were more heavy handed!
There are some nasty comments here sometimes by the same people)

Hey all,
Been off-line with this Forum for a bit, although I have been lurking and watching. Not much productive work going on, as far as I can gather.
Here's my thoughts: I don't know what went down and I don't care. What I think is that something made some of the old timers drift away. That is a shame. There should be a dialog regarding why that is and what should change to bring the old guard back. It seems that when I joined that there was a (albeit, a harsh) self regulating spirit to this forum. Now it seems unmoored. While I applaud the efforts of Mark Perry, it seems unnecessary for Mark to have to step in if we are doing our jobs and keeping each other in line.
In terms of funneling people here, the major recent event seems to be the Expedition Unknown episode of The Secret, which admittedly brought me here. While "new blood" is good, it has also brought undesirable elements to this forum. Personally, while I have tried to be respectful and read much of the history and threads, this is not always true of all new searchers. I watched as many of the old timers encourage newer searchers to read the threads, absorb the info and ask intelligent questions, only to rebuffed. I am not qualified to speak for everyone, but I believe there is value in listening to the elders, so to speak.
There are plenty of good minds out there, and I believe that we should encourage people to participate, however, one does not become a scholar by ignoring the history and teachings of those that came before us. Let's all agree to respect the process and each other, then maybe we can come together to solve these things together. With that, I encourage all of you to be inquisitive and expand the possibilities, but also treat each other with respect and when necessary, give hard advice, while understanding this is required for growth.

I am grateful for this post it helped me see who is serious and in good humor.
I am struck by how much fun I am having. I have not done this much exploring of a park in a long time. I have discovered new a beautiful art. I think BP would be happy about that.
Last weekend I went to a spot I had scouted out for a dig and what did I find but a filled in hole. I had to laugh because I was happy I on track with someone else and because the treasure wasn't found.
Irony is part of treasure hunting.

You have always been above board and a straight shooter.
Suppose the ones who needed more attention were put off.
Thanks as always.
