hey all, sorry i havent been around much lately, work has got me all tied up.  but i was able to head up to chicago this weekend and go to the Blues Festival which was held in our beloved Grant Park.  Well, i took my book with me, so i could try and find the casque on my own, and i'll tell ya, without knowing that the fence looked like whats drawn in the picture, i think it would have been really hard.  anywho, i took a few pics of the area (the bowman, the congress hotel, the Licoln statue, and also the location that i beleive it was at).  im about 95 percent sure i was at the burial site.  notice the fence picture, you can see the electrical fixture that was there.  also, behind the location is kind of a "aqauduct" thing, but its not for water, theres a road and also train tracks, which explains the last part of the verse, "listen for the rumble" or however it goes.  also theres a reference to hear the music, and i just happen to be there during a music festival, so it was kind of neat.  so i hope you enjoy these pics, and it was nice to be able to see the difficulty in these puzzles.  ive got my cousins wedding in mid july in cleveland, so i'm going to drop by the gardens and check out Edbergs spot, maybe visting these two locations will give me some insight into how he hid the rest.  its just to bad that the 2 midwest treasures have allready been found.  i guess im still within reach of St. Loius . here the link to my pics: http://community.webshots.com/scripts/e ... &ran=27825 let me know if it works, later all.

well done loph. it does look as if the fence wasnt there it would be hopeless. Very distinct symbol. Hope you had fun at the festival! thanks!!!!!!!!!

loph-- You were right on!  The first year of the book's publication, my father and I walked past the spot within yards.  oops. Obviously, we did not find it.  I think I was in 8th grade then. I am in St. louis now and utterly stumped.  I have studied every neighborhood in the city and most of the parks. Where are you?  You may have said so already on a different thread, but I can't remember. There are a few of us, at least, in the midwest.  Please, let's all help. --Johann

Shadowrunner, you've got a lot of reading to do.  If I could add a little levity to this, I think Chicago was the easiest one. LOL edit: thanx Fox BTW, the ones with the most smites, are the smartest.

loph, In the pics you posted of the Chicago site, did you mix in some pics of the Cleveland site as well?  I ask because the 3rd pic on the 2nd page, the wall is the exact same(at least to my eyes) wall as the one Egbert posted from the Cleveland site.  It is in the Cleveland Pictures from Egbert thread on the second page of the forum the picture entitled Wall Back .  As I am going to go poking around Grant Park next week I just want to know if I should be looking for that wall. digger7 Nevermind, I read your post in a different thread that said you moved the Cleveland pics into the Chicago album.  Mystery solved.

FB, Start at the statue of Lincoln and just keep walking south along the train tracks until you find it.  It was either right before E. Harrison St. or E. Balboa St.  I can't remember how far I walked.  Those other pictures of Grant Park were taken in the same area.

Interesting - then the "arched" fencepost was in an entirely different section from the casque! I wonder if there is (or was) an identical one near the casque in 1981.

It's certainly possible.  It is also possible that the one I saw used to be in a different place.  The arch is not an organic part of the fence.  There is a metal loop on the back which is slipped over the middle fence post.  I'm not saying it would be easy to move but I think it could be done.  Although I am not sure why someone would want to.
