The blue aura in the Chicago image is only around the elf the jewel and the fountain of the Great Lakes statute. (The fair folks and their jewel). Not sure other than acting as a waypoint the Great Lakes statue was more worthy as a clue than the state outline or the bow man or the water tower. Seems like the aura is also a red herring meant to confuse.

In the title page image right below the jewel there is a “double loop” in the scroll work. It is also in image 1 in the dragon tail on the dress pleat. Again we see it in image 11 in the iron scroll work of that dress pleat. In image 11 the way it starts as an “s” at the top of the peat then finishes as a double loop at the bottom seems like it could be a clue for the Boston area. Pathway or trail but in the since that it’s also in these other two images seems less likely.
A red herring or a type of JJP signature or something else?

Here is my take on the pictures, and I invite comments.  I have not yet collaborated with my former college roommate, who may have different ideas on this:
1.  The Months.  As we have all noticed, there appears to be a gem, a clock (or some type of number indicator), and a flower in each picture, which all seem to correspond to a month of the year.  I originally thought that I would be able to match up each image with the verse number to which the image corresponds.  However, since image 5 corresponds to verse 12 (Grant Park, Chicago), this does not appear to be the case.  Image 5 has an emerald, which is May’s birthstone, not December’s.  Perhaps these clues are just “red herrings,” and they only indicate which jewel you will receive if you find the casque.  (If we could ever find out who found the Grant Park casque, we could ask him what he received.)

2.  The Blue Aura.  There appears to be a glowing blue aura in each picture — there must be a reason for it.  Perhaps outlining an important clue?  Or where the casque is hidden?

3.  The Faeries.  Almost every picture has a faerie in it, or some type of mythical character.  Just decoration, or does the type of character give a clue?

I believe these indicate the orientation to the final object we find from the picture. Facing 12 as we approach it, with 6 on the side facing us, the casque’s location would be given by the orientation. Another way to look at this is to picture it looking down from above, with yourself approaching from below 6 o’clock. If the number associated with the image is 6, for instance, we’re coming up on it, and if it’s 12, it will be on the other side.
I can’t shake the feeling this is something we haven’t even touched on, yet.
One doesn’t have any. Probably a big clue in that, too.

1. These prove a constant, clues are predictable. If you think you have correctly interpreted the count or clock in an image, there is another clue to confirm you are correct (and you can accurately predict what it is). Likewise, if you can identify the jewel, you can accurately predict a count or a clock in the image.
2. These are found in many of JJP’s paintings outside of the book, and they mean nothing to this book (e.g.,

).
3. The type of character does not give a clue, but the fairy is always a clue. A predictable one at that.
*edit: I take this back. the type of character is a clue, too. a confirmation clue, and a predictable one.

Many of the “old timers” have a functional brain, they either refuse to acknowledge it, or they are trying to mislead you.

The Chicago image clued right to a specific park, yes?  And did the verse stay within the boundaries of that same park to lead to the dig site?
I do not believe the Old Water Tower was anywhere near Grant Park but if memory serves me correctly, the Indian Statue was near an entrance to the park.  If this is the case, maybe each P will have an obvious (ie..statue of liberty face) which leads us to a city and then a not so obvious (bird head gargoyle) which narrows down our search.

My general approach is that the pictures are more than just clues to a state or city, but a place in a city as well.  The Chicago image clued right to a specific park, yes?  And did the verse stay within the boundaries of that same park to lead to the dig site?
If an image is generally pointing to Florida, would it not also need to have clues to a specific city?  If an image is all about New York City, would it not also need to have clues to a specific location in the city?  (I’ll leave specifics for the thread about each of those pictures.)
