Line 2: grey giant
Line 3: arm
Line 4: slender path
Line 6: whirring sound
What kind of things make this sound? You would think maybe a bug? The sound of a propeller? If you include the word cars from line 7 then it seems as though the whirring sound is referring to something that runs across the land like above land, it’s not flying and it’s not underground and that’s probably what’s making that sound. The editor says its something that needs the power of humans to run.
Line 10: Indies native
Line 12: Of him of Hard word in 3 vols
A normal person would think that it was referring to some kind of writer, but it’s difficult to find out who that is. Mr. Preiss said in order to arrive at this person, you must play with words and the start is chicken. Eventually, you will end up at the name of the person who is referred to by Him.
Line 19: rhapsodic man’s soil
Rhapsodic man is a man of epics, from the word rhapsodic, think of a famous song then you will know that the rhapsodic man is the man that made that song.
Line 21: isle of B
hi. have the white patches on her breast and top of shoulder on the right been investigated? inverted, quite a lot there.
Hi. i found the bubbles and gem alignment. posted on twitter and reddit.Sunset Park, 41st St and 5th Ave in Brooklyn. 22 steps up the hill, the Or more are the short set of steps to the left that land at the middle of one branch of the V.the triangular bed to the right. Dig there!
Can you explain how the bubbles and gem align? I can’t figure out how you see it?
The bubbles are not what you think they are. The coloured circles in the image are found on a map to an amusement park which is no where near NYC. There is purple, orange, light blue, teal and red. These circles lead you to the needed items so you can figure out the verse. Also, the face on image is not the Statue of Liberty itself…it is used though to make a connection to the word Liberty. The bird in the image is not the eagle that people have been connecting it with. In NYC you find Pigeons, near the shore you find seagulls. Check out the California Native Education Centre and you will see what I mean. I have given you plenty here to go on. Follow these leads and you will get there.
Those birds are on the Chrysler building
Thank you!
How did this come about as listed for new york?
If the woman’s dangling robe is meant to be Manhattan, then the gem lines right up with Governor’s Island. The droplets of water would, in that case, represent the rivers and bay.
I think that part of the image surely is meant to represent Manhattan and the islands. Possibly glass beads as mentioned in the book. All meant as a city indicator. But artistically speaking, the two beads on the right, the reflections are at different angles so is that artistically incorrect? They look like eyeballs looking in different directions to me. I think they’re meant to be both.
Could the eyeballs looking in two different directions possibly be a reference to the author of Masquerade?
it is the 5 boroughs. grey giant = empire state building.
how do you exsplane the arm part
Not in New York. Try the clues in Chicago..rock island and the bridge to be more precise. It’s there. St.louis puzzle is actually in nation’s capital where it’s buried where the Lee’s rose garden once stood. And the Florida puzzle I’m keeping for myself. More to come. 30 hours on a train and I got in the groove
It’s a road map. Ellis island then Statue of Liberty then Verrazzano Bridge then The “Russian Mermaid” is Staten Island, her sash is Shore Beach the Russian settlement…and that’s all u get…I solved it but there’s your hints…
I agree. The women and gown are the outline of Staten Island.
I have to add that the casque for this image and verse is not in the NYC area. You need to match the items in the painting to the verse not just the landscape which can look similar to other areas around the world quite easily. It is a map, but not a road map.
My grandpa is from NYC. Never been, but he told me so much I can can picture it in my mind’s eye. What I see, is what you describe
It is 100% not on Governors Island. I have already gone and checked and I spoke with a Park Ranger and they told me the park only opened to the public after 2001. Prior to that it was a military base
The iron giant is the empire state building bthe arm is the shadow. If you look for parks in the shadow in the morning, they will be in the south east. Isle of b is Broadway. There is a park right where it should be. That is where it should be.
where is JJP initials or signature in New York art?
Just underneath the center of the clock. Where the clock hands join together.
It’s hard to see… but thats where they are.
No…his initials are below and to the left of the jewel. Look for the white letters ‘JP’.

My theory of image 12/
verse 10…
By georgecraigmanning
Immigration, Ellis Island, Lady Liberty.
Colored dots sure do resemble the Massimo Vignelli designed NYC Subway Map of the 1970’s. The colored dots representing each train line are spot on. There are 472 stations in the NYS Subway System, but there’s no way I’m counting all of image 12’s dots! Parks on the map were grey squares (the clock), and the water surrounding the land was tan (squares with seagull-eagle & Lady Liberty’s head). The NYC Subway connects every ethnic neighborhood in the most diverse city in the world and that map was the number one souvenir for everyone in the world that visited NYC.
Eagle-seagull’s head looks like the Art-Deco eagles on top of Ellis Island Ferry Building.
Red rectangle looks like the dock on Ellis Island.
Spires look like the domes on the main Ellis Island Building.
Arched shape is the Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge towers…
-In the shadow of the grey giant…
The grey giant is the Verrazzano Bridge.
-Find the arm that extends over the slender path…
The arm is the Verrazzano Bridge deck and the slender path is The Narrows.
-In summer you’ll often hear a whirring sound cars abound…
Helicopter tours? Roadway of bridge is actually 12 feet lower in summer due to thermal expansion and the traffic causes a whirring sound below.
Below is Fort Hamilton, literally in the shadow of the bridge.
-Although the sign nearby speaks of indies native…
The sign nearby is the sign at Fort Hamilton Triangle Park, several blocks away. The monument there has an eagle on top of an obelisk.
Hamilton was a British West Indies Native.
-The natives still speak of him of hard word in 3 vols…
The natives are Native New Yorkers.
Hard word…more later.
3 vols…more later.
-Take twice as many east steps as the hour or more…
The images clock shows 11 o’clock, so I walk 22 west steps(The crosswalk from Ft Hamilton Triangle to Ft Hamilton Library is exactly 22 steps). West, because I believe images 1 and 12 are sister/mirror images (east coast-west coast, VZ Bridge-GG Bridge, NYC-SF, immigration). Keep in mind that in the Chicago and Cleveland finds, the ‘out of order hypothesis’ and the ‘reverse/backwards hypothesis’ were used in the find.
-From the middle of one branch of the V look down and see simple roots in rhapsodic mans soil…
Branch…more later.
Upon walking my 22 steps, I’m facing a 4 foot tall iron V. The V is a support to a gate. The gate surrounds the Fort Hamilton Library. The V is inches from the 95 Street Station subway entrance.
In the 1890’s Mrs. Gelstin of Shore road, with a capital of faith and 5 dollars, donated a collection of books to open the Fort Hamilton Free Library…
Simple roots!
In 1901 it became a branch of the Brooklyn Public Library, and in 1905 with a 1.6 million dollar gift from philanthropist Andrew Carnegie, moves to its present building. The Fort Hamilton Library became one of Brooklyn’s first Carnegie Libraries.
Carnegie is probably best known for Carnegie Hall, one of the most prestigious venues in the world of music…
Ft Hamilton Library, a Carnegie Library is in rhapsodic mans soil!
-Or gaze north toward the isle of B…
Gazing north is Bedloe’s Island, renamed Liberty Island in 1956.
In the Travel/ Discovery Chanel episode, Preiss’s daughters were asked:”Is there any doubt in your mind that one of the boxes are here (NYC)?” They replied: “So he did say in a very fatherly way”: “Where would daddy bury a treasure?”…Library!
Hard word…Library!
3 vols…Library!
Branch…Library!
The Native New Yorkers still speak of Hamilton of hard word in 3 vols…
Fort(1) Hamilton(2) Library(3)!
The center of woman’s robe has the image of a lion, which is the symbol of a library to every New Yorker I know.
Perhaps the lion’s face is a nod to Patience and Fortitude, the twin lions outside the New York Public Library and NYC mascots (thanks Gail).
Co-authors Sean Kelly & Ted Mann are from Montreal, believed to be a casque location. John Jude Palencar was born 20 min away from the Cleveland find. Byron Preiss was born in Brooklyn.
So, V marks the spot!
Always respect ALL laws and regulations of locations associated with
‘The Secret: A Treasure Hunt’.
Are you in the area? Because I live about 10 blocks away? I’m willing to check it out for you. And give you all due credit…
Your making it too hard. Start at G.W. on Wall street and lisen. You’ll hear the sounds of helos from wall st. helo port. You will also hear the cars on the FDR. Go west to Trinty church where the writer of Hard words 3 vols. Turn south on BRoadway to the Bull At The V. Here is where I need help. I can’t travel because of money and health. All items from the painting can be seen here except one. That is the world trade towers. Standing in bowling green park yoy would only see one tower. The white egale seen in two places in 1980. One top of custom house and the other is in battery park. I live in NY in rhe 1960’s and the battery park egale would be covered in bird dropings turning it white. All the other clues are on the frount of the custom house and the 22 steps should put you on target.
Y’all are forgetting the 1980s phenomenon of the bay ridge buzz. A humming sound heard in bay ridge that lasted for decades and was well know. My thoughts are bay ridge and owl head park.
I just looked on google maps to take a peek. Of course that exact areas view is blocked by a city bus 😣🤣
Hello all
The grey giant is George Washington on Wall Street
Look at the hands in painting and statue there are a match
He points to trinity church
The clock matches
Hamilton is buried there
On his head stone is three vols
Patriot
Soldier
Statesman
Going south on broadway you come to a “v”
Broadway spits into two
Both broadway
Taking right side brings you to peter Minuit flagpole
He purchased Manhattan
If you look at flagpole closely you’ll see lion and peter Minuit
If you look at painting you’ll see lion on left side in foam of wave
And in crest of wave a shadow of a face in creating wave
As for the arc it Clinton castle
Now you can see all
Statue liberty
Ellis Island
Clinton castle
Flagpole
22 steps?
I believe is a ventilation bldg
Isle of “B” is actually battery park surrounded by broadway
The rumored purchase site by peter Minuit for the Dutch
This is the first place I’ve seen Vols as volunteers, I’ve thought this for a very long time. Additionally, the Hard word is right there on the head stone as well, MARBLE! I believe the natives are New Yorkers and not a reference to native Americans
Okay, I am going to share another hint building on the fact that the casque is not in NYC or the surrounding area…or NY State for that matter. The 3 Vols. is not referring to book volumnes or more than one person..who is not a volunteer but a Champion in a specific sport. If you look into the jewel you will see which sport.
Hi, There.
I’ve been reading these comments. You seem not just to have an inkling, but to be very sure about your thoughts. Have you found the location and are just holding back to let others have some fun? Genuinely curious how you’re so, so sure…
Happy hunting 🙂
Steven
Grey giant died on sept 11th 2001
so howd that go?
Let me help u. Fort Hamilton is her left hand. I thought it a possibility because she points to it however if u actually read the book and solve the whole puzzle you’ll see it’s not.
well, you did good in some spots, not others, V is what the whole picture is all about. Has anyone read the book here? Let’s remember it’s all about immigration and the 3 volumes has to do with Fort Wadsworth on the right hand. That’s where the Indian monument was supposed to go. It didn’t and the 3 vol has to do with that. The V is not Brooklyn. You really think Preiss made it about him? The dots are not subway stations. The woman’s sash are shells not lions. At least you got the isle of B.
The immigration aspect is not Russian…it is likely Spanish.
Image 12’s bird…
When the colonial governors of Nieuw Amsterdam purchased what is now Ellis Island, it was named Gull Island after the birds that were it’s only inhabitants.
Image 12’s bird’s head is a spot on match of the Art-Deco eagles on top of the Ellis Island ferry building.
Could this eagle-seagull hybrid be confirmation of Ellis Island?
I believe so.
I don’t believe it’s on EI, just thinking eagle head (match to EI ferry building) on a seagull body (Gull Island) may represent Ellis Island.
A lot of people looking for that bird
For those looking for the bird…go to the California Native Education Centre and you will find it.
Rethinking my theory for The Secret- Image 12/Verse 10
Looking at image 12…
Arched shape matches the Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge tower.
Colored dots sure do resemble the Massimo Vignelli designed NYC Subway Map of the 1970’s. Colored dots represented each train line, parks were dark grey squares (same as image 12’s clock), the surrounding water was tan (same as the boxes Lady Liberty’s head and eagle-seagull are in image 12), and the entire map is sectioned into squares (similar to image 12’s panels).
This map was the number one souvenir for everyone in the world who visited NYC. I believe this tells us we should be in NYC.
Eagle-seagull’s head is a match to the Art-Deco eagles on top of the Ellis Island ferry building. The original name of EI was Gull Island, explaining the body.
Reddish rectangle framed in gray is a good match to the main entrance of the Fort Hamilton Library. In 1980, the door was reddish with a limestone door surround.
I believe the blue Orthodox Church tells us we she be in Brooklyn. It represents Brooklyn’s nickname, ‘The Borough of Churches’.
The waves represent the neighborhood of BKLYN we should be in, Bay Ridge.
The 3 ‘Water Droplets’ beneath Lady Liberty’s robe are the 2 acorn shaped lights on each side of the Ft Hamilton Library entrance and the ornate streetlight in between at the curb. The faceted jewel is literally showing the location of the casque. The angle and perspective is spot on.
Lady Liberty is in the shape of a triangle. Ft Hamilton Triangle Park is across the street from the library.
Finally, Lady Liberty’s robe appears to have the image of a lion in the center. A lion represents the mascot of The New York Public Library to every New Yorker I know.
Reading verse 10…
Ok, let’s say I change the order of some of lines?

Of the v

Look down
Grey giant is the VZ Bridge. Grey because that’s how BP’s Canadian co-authors spell gray.
Arm is the bridge deck and slender path is The Narrows.
Gazing north from my location, I’m looking at Liberty Island, formerly Bedloe’s Island.
Sign nearby is Ft Hamilton Library.
Hamilton was an Indies native.
The natives are Native New Yorkers.
Hard word in 3 vols is a play on words. Hard word, 3 vols, branch, lion represents library. Library in 3 vols is
Fort Hamilton Library.
There’s a placard in the vestibule of the library…
In the 1880’s, Mrs. Gelstin of Shore Road, with a capital of faith and 5 dollars, donated a collection of books to open the Fort Hamilton Free Library.
That’s simple roots.
In 1901 it became a branch of The Brooklyn Public Library, and in 1905 with a 1.6 million dollar gift from philanthropist Andrew Carnegie, moves to its new building. Ft Hamilton Library became one of BKLYN’s first Carnegie Libraries.
Carnegie is probably best known for Carnegie Hall, one of the most prestigious venues in the world of music.
That’s rhapsodic man’s soil.
From the middle of one branch (Ft Hamilton Library is the branch and its entrance is dead center) I take exactly 22 east steps (twice as many steps as the hour) across the street to the curb. 2-3 steps (or more) from the curb and I’m in Fort Hamilton Triangle Park. Ft Hamilton Triangle Park has always been called Pigeon Park by the locals because of the large number of pigeons living there. In summer you’ll often hear a whirring sound because whirring is the sound birds wings make. Look it up.
Directly across the street from the library’s entrance (22steps or more, I look down at a small plot of green with grass and shrubs. It’s the southern tip of Ft Hamilton Triangle Park.
The plot is exactly where the faceted jewel is in image 12 in proportion to the library’s lights and streetlight (the water droplets). Standing there looking south is the VZ Bridge tower perfectly aligned.
In the EU episode, BP’s daughters were asked: “Is there any doubt in your mind that one of the boxes is here (NYC)?
They Replied: “so he did say in a very fatherly way”: “Where would daddy bury a treasure?”
I’m thinking 25 steps from a library with a post card view of The VZ Bridge.
Co-authors Kelly and Mann are from Montreal, believed to be a casque location. JJP was born 20 minutes from the Cleveland Find. BP was born in Brooklyn.
I do like your adjustments to the verse as I can see that you are really trying to make sense of the verse itself. Drop me an email and I will help you out. Cheers…
This has got to be it!!!
To correlate some more with the image … Check this out:
http://thesecret.pbworks.com/w/page/86303071/Image%2012
So they say there might be a “74” in the waves….I think it might actually be a 94!
The address of the library is 9412 which is right at 94th street!
They also say the waves crashing might refer to the “Bay ridge” area of Brooklyn which is right where the library is.
I believe “the middle of the V” also may be a reference to the v shape of 4th and 5th ave…the library is right “in the middle of one arm of the v”
It seems there is also a lion shape on top of a nearby building (from the above link).
Maybe we can convince the local parks Sept to let us plant some flowers there or something!!!
Or bring a Shovel and orange vests and traffic cones and beat up old pickup and sneak in there xD
I am also completely convinced (until proven otherwise) that this is the answer! Is anyone working on a permit/contacting someone? I’m currently away from the city, but am planning on returning soon– Will be checking in on this thread in hopes of further correspondence !
A correction is need on this site on the line
And see simple roots
In rhapsodic mans soil
Need the ‘s on mans. The book contains
“ And see simple roots
In rhapsodic man’s soil”
Without the apostrophe to show Poseidon, the line takes on a different meaning.
Possession- not Poseidon. (Darn autocorrect.)
These images are so crystal clear! I’m just curious why the blue architectural buildings are not in the close ups
Seconding this question- where is the Russian building in the “original” painting?
Because they are not what people think they are. This image keeps you guessing and it will pull you back and forth between two places continuously until you finally lock it in. They are not Russian btw.
Your comments are interesting, but there’s no such thing as the “California Native Education Centre.” I followed your clues, but they don’t seem to connect.
I think its on coney island
I think the casque is on Coney Island. The whirring in summer are the rides. That is all. I am terrible at riddles.
You are actually very good at riddles as you are half right.
I believe I see some coordinates in the bubbles. The left one in red looks like a 28 and the last one on the right I see a 64. Still working on the middle one. Any feedback would be great.
Also the wings could be considered a 33 if there’s one in the box next to it that’s 4 coordinates.
Or…it could be parking spots.
Hi.
My trip last year to the Verrazzano bridge made me realize that it is actually painted a green like a seafoam green color and not gray (grey). The fog can be a grey giant.
The northern sea in the Secret is Grey.
The narrows is the shadow under her nose.
The weird shark fin shape on her neck sure looks like Gravesend Bay.
The tear like pattern if you look at an image of raindrops are dead on as raindrops. Same pattern exactly.
I have solved at least 10 versions of N.Y.
None were correct.
So my last solution wraps you around Brooklyn and then I can’t say but I have matched each clue including arm and it had zero to do with Hamilton.
I am probably wrong again but every clue matches exactly minus the v. Simple roots and branch could also be a mathematic angle.
I skipped to the matching final monument.
So this can be “solved” a million different ways as I have realised. I have read 10 other people who have ” solved” it and they are all different.
Oh I should mention that my book is a little low res but if you blow up the clock image patterns can be viewed of farm scenes and a logo looking shape with an “S” that looks allot like Owlhead and there is supposed to be an “S” shaped tree there.
There is also a beatnik looking chickenman with the Brooklyn navy yard beard.
So for me they were all rabbit holes but maybe someone else can make something of it.
hi, what do you mean by brooklyn navy yard beard? would love if you could elaborate.
Looking at some of the images posted here, an old map of Battery Park stands out. Many clues fit for inside the park (at least my husband and I think). Possibly a casque in what is The Oval in the park today? Anyone else thought this?
I found the middle bubble it also looks like 26. Let me know what you all see.
I had some feeling that Sunset Park was part of the puzzle so today I went there and took crazy amount of pictures. You can see everything from the top of the hill. Everything important to NYC landmarks, i.e. Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, Manhattan, Battery Park, etc… One side of the V shaped walk path has exactly 22 steps. There is a huge grey bark colored tree at the top of the hill which has many arms stretching across the slender path. I can post all the pictures if someone wants to take a look. Just tell me where to post them. I also suspect Prospect Park and McCarren Park, which both are shaped like the woman’s shoulders, arms and dress. I see a “75” in the painting and the address of Prospect Park is 75 Prospect Park Avenue. Prospect Park is close to the library, botanical gardens and many other interesting coincidences. McCarren Park is located right next to a Russian Orthodox Church which has windows shape like the arch and “Windows”. The roof is an exact match of the orthodox church outline in the painting. Back to Prospect Park, when you overlay the park and painting and match them up to size, the left hand finger points exactly to a small park next to Botanical Gardens and the Library.
I’d love to see those pictures you took at Sunset Park. Can you email them. [email protected].
Daniel,
Mike Cattell and I like how the Sunset Park pool resembles Image 12 if you over lay it.
We haven’t searched there yet, but see that you have. We would like to discuss what you’ve seen and look at pictures you’ve taken.
I’m going to include our email addresses.
Mine is [email protected]
Mike’s- [email protected]
You are all doing so much work and especially regarding the branch. It is not part of a tree. Sorry. Drop me an email if you really want to know about this. Cheers…
Hey folks, I have some ideas for you. I am skeptical that anything can be found after all these years in regards to the NY treasure but here are my ideas that may be new to you. I just don’t have any desire to ever visit NY and go digging, so maybe this will help someone else.
There are dark images under the L/R arms of the woman. Many say it is a large 51. I think it is more likely “SL” meaning Statue of Liberty.
I believe Battery Park is a 100% where to look. If you look at the image matching the domes of Ellis Island, in the center of the image I believe that peninsula Island extending into the blue of the image is Manhattan. And at the lower left there is a distinct dot where Battery Park is. So the dot marks Battery Park.
If you google Eagle wings monument images in NY, the only image that matches the bird wings is the East Coast Memorial in Battery Park.
The bird image tail looks like a Squid. So does the legs. The memorial is in honor to dead military men lost at sea during the war. Sea men are called squids.
The clock could be referring to the clock tower on Pier A in Battery Park.
The square emerald in the water is about where the Statue of Liberty would be in relation to Manhattan.
The water wave imagery is possibly relating to the men lost at sea as well as the huge dark skull in lower right (sea dead).
The arch area above the woman’s head is very close match to the large door entry of Clinton Castle.
The Battery Park Cannon could be the reference to arm over path.
The Fort George Memorial Tablet looks like the yellow square in the image.
The Jerusalem Grove Labyrinth could match the large swirls in the bottom of the image and the various paths in the park.. hard to tell
The Netherland Monument could refer to a Dutch East India Company (Indies) and American Natives. Maybe he misread the sign. Manhattan was purchased from Natives.
The various bubble images could relate to all the granite monuments. Granite looks like that.
I will stop here and assume it is in Battery Park. Now we are just looking for what is the “V” in Battery Park?
The only obvious Vs in the park are Giovanni da Verrazzano (V) and the Eagle wings which make a V if you look at them straight on and also in the image there is the obvious missing part of the circle in the Eagles wings that create a V reference. There is also a V in the Clock image (VI) but I can’t make much use of that one.
The Verrazzano statue has been moved and park paths have been modified, so it may be impossible to ever find it if that monument is the V reference. My guess is that the V is more likely the East Coast Memorial as the Verrazzano statue would be possibly too obvious. You would have to look at the Eagle to realize it’s wings make a V.
So the next step would be to understand from what point to walk 22 steps east of the East Coast Memorial. This gets difficult and I can’t figure that out over the Internet with images. I’m guessing that 22 steps east of the East Coast Memorial there may have been a park sign reference to old Manhattan, since this park area is the oldest and original part of Manhattan purchased from the Indians. If so, does the sign still exist? This would assume the reference “Look down And see simple roots In rhapsodic man’s soil” to be referring to roots of MAN-hattan on a park sign.
In the end, I don’t think it would be wise to go digging around for something in Battery Park this many years after the fact since the park is too important now and who knows how much it has changed. Good luck.
The Statue of Liberty places us in NYC
The eagle looks like one from the Penn Station
The eagle has the body of a seagull, we are looking for a Penn eagle near the shore
The Indies native is obviously Alexander Hamilton
The eagle facing Liberty commemorates the Merchant Marine and Coast Guard
The Merchant Marine and Coast Guard started with Hamilton
FDR created the US Merchant Marine Academy on the shore of Long Island
The USMMA is home to two Penn eagles
North of the USMMA is City Island, the island of the Bronx
The USMMA is the former estate of Chrysler
The Chrysler Building casts a precise shadow on the east wall of Grand Central
The frame in the image perfectly matches the Grand Central windows
The windows contain a slender walkway
The arm of Aquarius extends out above the walkway
The ceiling zodiac forms a V and 22 steps east (in the sky) leads to Gemini (the twins)
Three blocks east at the United Nations we find a pair of Manhattan’s twin buildings
FDR led the creation of the United Nations
Duke Ellington’s last work was a dedication to the UN
Ellington became well known for his version of Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue
Each pane of colors and patterns in the image represent Ellington song titles
Ellington’s soil was Washington and Hamilton Heights, Sugar Hill and Harlem
Looking down, the lines in the gown trace the streets in that area
The markers fall directly on Harlem playgrounds
The Jewel falls on the Alexander Hamilton Playground, with a sign to the native
While Hamilton is an important figure, the people of Harlem celebrate Miles Davis
Davis took the Bebop of Ellington and created Hard bop, the jazz fusion we known today
The park had a rectangular area bordering a concrete retaining wall
The clock shows the bordering wall and a center pole
Wow…you have done so much work. The images and the verse are painful in the least as everything is so subjective…we could all come up with a different version. I just noticed that my email will not be published on this site…and that is after suggesting some members drop me a line if they would like some helpful information. Look in the jewel as there are BIG hints there. If someone would like to discuss more they can email me at [email protected] Cheers…
You’re really close man, but still pretty far out there. I’m seeing you draw a lot of invisible lines like the Penn eagles and FDR. What you do have is a concrete map of Upper Manhattan. Pay more attention to that. These puzzles aren’t so abstract, parading you around the city, they’re localized. I also investigated the Grand Central connection, but I don’t think it holds water being so far away from The GW and Highbridge Tower. I say abandon everything you have except that map. Poke around Washington Heights with “in the shadow of the gray giant” in your head. You’ll find the spot. Its a small section of a larger park.
In all the above clues discussed on this chain for the NYC location, it seems like everyone is overthinking these clues. You can see all of the verse clues from the exact location of the buried casque.
Stop trying to overthink the meaning of the clues, and just simplify what you are looking for with the image & the verse.
Good luck all finding this buried casque !!
Updating my theory of The Secret NYC Image 12/Verse 10 by georgecraigmanning
In a May 9th interview, artist John Jude Palencar was asked how he approaches creating imaginative artwork for a book cover, he said,
“I get a synopsis. I give them thumbnails. A lot of times I want to do a piece of work that will stand on its own. I try to use archetypes and symbols.
Sometimes I can give away the plot on the cover and people won’t know until they’ve read it.”
Archetypes and symbols? Personal iconography? Hmm…
This tells us we should be in New York City.
Eagle-seagull’s head is a match to the Art-Deco eagles on top of the Ellis Island ferry building. The original name of EIlis Island was Gull Island, explaining the body.
Reddish rectangle framed in gray is a good match to the main entrance of the Fort Hamilton Library. In 1980, the door was reddish with a limestone door surround.
I believe the blue Orthodox Church (Watching the 1978 movie The Deer Hunter. Story takes place in Clairiton PA, south of Pittsburgh. However the weeding scenes were filmed @ St Theodicies Russian Orthodox Cathedral in the Tremont neighborhood of Cleveland Ohio. Filming the movie, amateur Russian immigrant extras lined up for wedding dance sequences, drank liquor & beer & brought real gift-wrapped presents). Artist John Jude Palencar was born 15 min from that church. Archetypes and symbols? Personal iconography? It represents Brooklyn’s nickname, ‘The Borough of Churches’, and tells us we should be in Brooklyn.
Ft Hamilton Triangle Park is across the street from the library (exactly 22 east steps).
Finally, Lady Liberty’s robe appears to have the image of a lion in the center. A lion represents the mascot of The New York Public Library to every New Yorker I know.
Reading verse 10…
Ok, let’s say I change the order of some of lines to read…
In the shadow
Of the grey giant
Of the v
Find the arm that
Extends over the slender path
Or gaze north
Toward the isle of b
Although the sign
Nearby
Speaks of Indies native
The natives still speak
Of him of hard word in 3 vols
Look down
And see simple roots
In rhapsodic man’s soil
From the middle of one branch
Take twice as many east steps as the hour
Or more
From the middle of one branch
In summer
You’ll often hear a whirring sound
Cars abound
Grey giant is the VZ Bridge. Grey because that’s how BP’s Canadian co-authors spell gray.
Arm is the bridge deck and slender path is The Narrows.
Gazing north from my location, I’m looking at Liberty Island, formerly Bedloe’s Island.
Sign nearby is Ft Hamilton Library.
Hamilton was an Indies native.
The natives are Native New Yorkers.
Hard word in 3 vols is a play on words. Hard word, 3 vols, branch, lion…represents library. Library in 3 vols is
1 Fort 2 Hamilton 3 Library.
In summer, when pigeons leave their nests, you’ll often hear a whirring sound because whirring is the sound birds wings make.
Cars abound because the park is a small one block triangle in the middle of 4th and 5th avenues. 4th Avenue is a main thoroughfare in Brooklyn stretching 6 miles from Times Plaza to the Belt Parkway.
Directly across the street from the library’s entrance (22steps or more),I look down at a small plot of green with grass and shrubs.
I’m thinking 25 steps from a library with a post card view of The VZ Bridge In BP’s hometown of Brooklyn.
Co-authors Kelly and Mann are from Montreal, believed to be a casque location. JJP was born 20 minutes from the Cleveland Find. BP was born in Brooklyn.
Respect ALL laws & regulations associated with The Secret: A Treasure Hunt Locations.
I just saw Expedition Unknown and I am new to this topic.
But what I can tell for sure is the “A Beautiful Mind” code-reading is way over the top here.
You just need the starting location and can narrow it down within a 100 meter google earth radius
Just check out my picture:

The Verse is not the order you have to go, just check Boston for example.
In the shadow
Of the grey giant
We see a grey giant in the picture and the shape reminds me of the twin towers. I mean what else do you need?
In Boston we have the Statue from christopher columbus
In Chicago the The Bowman and The Spearman statue
The natives still speak
Of him of Hard word in 3 Vols.
“De Halve Maen” or Netherland Monument in the Battery Park and across the street is the National Museum of the American Indian.
Take twice as many east steps as the hour
Or more
Now we walk 22 or more steps (depends on body size) to the east.
Find the arm that
Extends over the slender path
Walk until you see the American Merchant Mariners’ Memorial.
And see simple roots
In rhapsodic mans soil
Or gaze north
Toward the isle of B.
You can see the Liberty Island from here, just go to her direction
Of the v
Look down

NYC-Image 12/Verse 10

Perhaps ‘hard word, 3 vols, & branch’ are a play on words representing a library?
what if The 1Fort 2Hamilton 3Library (3 vols) is the ‘branch’. It’s entrance is dead center. You enter through a vestibule. Perhaps ‘the v’ is vestibule?
There’s a very interesting placard hanging in the vestibule telling the Ft Hamilton Library’s history. I read it and my takeaway was ‘simple roots in rhapsodic man’s soil’.
The Secret image 12/verse 10
George C Manning
Image 12
The eagle-seagull’s top of the right wing strikes me as unusual.
The border on the top of the arch doesn’t continue through it and there is an interruption of the border between the two wings.
The bottom border of the purple panel, the same, however, there is shading where the border would have been, almost creating a line.
The top of the right wing has detailed feathers where the left wing does not.
The effect is that the top of the right wing is isolated. Why?
I count 9 distinct feathers on the right wing.
This is over 5 distinct panels. Why 5?
Below those are 4 distinct panels. Why 4?
So, 9,5 and 4.
In my theory of image 12/verse 10, the exact location of my ‘X marks the spot’ is the planter/plot at the southern tip of Fort Hamilton Triangle Park.
That location is exactly at the intersection of 95th Street and 4th Avenue (95 and 4).
Coincidence?
George C Manning,
To my understanding he buried them in maybe less discrete places? This triangle park seems that it would be very noticeable if you saw somebody digging in there, considering how small it is in there. Although, your explanation has been the most intriguing and spot on that I have heard.
Thanks Jessie. In 2020 I would completely agree with you. It’s not the most discreet location & you’d sure be noticed if you were digging there.
However, in the 1980’s to its renovation in 1998 it was a different story. Most people would cross the street than walk past.
The final stop on the R train is at that location & vagrants were forced out of the subway there, many spending the night, as well as their days in the park. The park was also a well known drug spot. The park acquired a tall chain-link fence in the 1980’s that a local restaurant would lock every night & unlock in the morning. Finally in 1998 the city approved the $430,000 rehabilitation of the park.
My thought is that if BP were to bury a body in that park in the 80’s to its renovation, not a soul would notice.
Hi guys i recently discover this book and get fascinating by it. And the most intriguing picture for me is this one from New York. i am from argentina so if I made a gramatical mistake, im sorry for that.
I was wondering if instead of being buried in New York its in New Jersey, in the Liberty State Park. I am no expert in puzzles and less in that area, but from there you can see all the things very clear like the Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island including the domes and the tower with the eagles. Also the verse says “In summer You’ll often hear a whirring sound”, in the summer of 1916 was a explosion in that park, the black tom explosion. I know it says often but all the verse is open to interpretation. And the central rail road of the park has a clock and the window are a better match to the picture. Thats some thoughts of this chances.
Also I have some thoughts of the verse itself.
“In the shadow Of the Grey giant” maybe it means the building of a newspaper, like The New York Times?
“Although the sign” maybe it means something like this https://www.signingsavvy.com/sign/ALTHOUGH/6198/1
“From the middle of one branch, Of the v, Look down And see simple roots ” simple roots maybe means, if you are in a park, a playground for kids, or a kindergarten.
Bye!
Look for that V near the base of the arm
And 22 steps east later you will be more than just warm
Then Look Down slowly so you will not miss
The digging spot under manicured bricks
Where you can look due north to see the isle of B.
Whose man’s soil grows simple roots, as you can see
As well as the grey giant, and an old rusty sign
That shows the Hard word and the “him” right behind
With summer whirring and cars blurring also there
So when you discover, and if you dare
To uncover this treasure under stone, in cold soil
You will need to dig quickly, with purpose & toil
But the reward will be something that you will reveal
Is the answer to this puzzle, that this treasure is real
New here, reading your views, waw!
I googled eleven O’clock in New York and very surprisingly got 11 O’clock numbers for shows on Broadway. Looked which were popular in the late ’70s
Found ‘Staying alive’ and Saturday Night Fever. The disco named in the film is 2001 Odyssey, then situated in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn, NYC.
There is a park with a rune stone, commemorating the landing of Leif Ericson in the year 1000. Other statues of Leif Ericson can be found in Boston, Milwaukee, Chicago, Saint Paul Minnesota and Seattle.
By surfing from one item to another I stumbled on the statue of John Ericsson in Battery Park. He is holding a ship in his hand.
Never been to New York and probably never will, just reading a lot.
https://www.heyridge.com/2018/07/the-long-forgotten-history-of-leif-ericson-park/
Ok so i am posting this anagram that I came up using the first letters of each line , i got only one letter extra , the letter i.
Personally I think is a coincidence but those who are into Coney Island might find it interesting and who knows it could turn out to be a legit clue and it might help them with their research.
So the anagram is like this :
I float afoot to coney is
Only one letter remains the letter i
Good luck !
I found the same anagram, only using all of the capital letters in the verse. My 5 extra letters are BHVII. Coney Island Amusement Park would definitely produce a whirring sound in the summer. Cars abound. I think you are on the right track. Good luck.
So would I be crazy to think the picture is NY but the poem everyone has been using is not the correct passage to find the NY box and key?
it is not new york I believe it is Seattle Washington because of Bainbridge island is the isle of B. and there is a giant grey statue in Seattle. in the picture in the poem, there is a bird with the Seattle seahawk face!
The Secret, image 12 NYC

Perhaps the church in image 12 is a clever disguise.
Instead of focusing on the architecture of a churches exterior, what if we focused on the interior? After all, studying a stained glass window can’t be done from the outside, it has to be done from the inside with the light shining through.
In my theory, verse & image lead me down a short path only several blocks long. The starting point is the Verrazzano Narrows Bridge (grey giant) at 4th Avenue and John Paul Jones Park.
I continue walking down down 4th Ave in Bay Ridge because the lady in image 12 is showing 4 fingers in her free hand. Visually, my next stop is The Roman Catholic Church of St. Patrick on 4th Ave & 95th St. I realize this is not a Russian Orthodox Church like the one in image 12, however…
Inside the RC Church of St Patrick I’m immediately struck by a tall blue colored, bordered arch, the exact same shape as image 12.
In the center of the arch is a white statue of Mother Mary in a comparable robe, & in almost the identical pose as the woman in image 12.
I’m further struck by the stained glass windows above her surrounding the church. At the top of the tall arched windows are designs of stained glass circles in the upper sections of the windows. These circles are the same exact colors as the colored circles in the panels in image 12.
In a May 9th interview, JJP was asked how he approaches imaginative artwork for a book cover, he said,
“I get a synopsis, I give them thumbnails. A lot of times I want to do a piece of work that will stand on its own. I try to use archetypes & symbols. Sometimes I can give away the plot on the cover & people won’t know until they’ve read it.” Asked about the world he creates in his artwork, JJP said, “An area I’m exploring is about faith & belief & mortality, the biggest archetypes that people deal with & woven in with that is personal iconography.”
What if JJP used HIS archetype church, Saint Theodosius Orthodox Church, in his hometown of Ohio to represent the RC Church of St. Patrick in image 12? And if he did, perhaps he drew upon the archetypes, symbols, shapes, & colors inside inside the RC Church of St. Patrick to create a large part of image 12.
My theory continues to the Ft Hamilton Library, then to Pigeon Park’s southern tip where I believe the casque is buried.
The church, the library and Pigeon Park are all at the intersection of 95th St & 4th Ave, which are literally in the shadow of the looming VZ Bridge tower several blocks away. Almost everything in image 12 can be seen from my X marks the spot.
The eagle face on the seagull looks a-lot like those atop the Chrysler Building….
I got a question. Why is this one believed to be in New York?
what if it’s not in manhattan?
ok so I am fairly new to this and I was just messing around with the image and I noticed something odd about the bird’s feet I thought it was too oddly shaped to not be something significant so I made an outline of the bird’s legs and feet including the space in between the legs. I took the outline and I tried to put it all around manhattan but there was no place that it seemed to fit. so I started trying to fit it around the manhattan area and I found that it seems to fit in an area and a park in Brooklyn. if you look at the right side of the lady a shape is made it looks almost exactly like the park in Brooklin also the head of the bird kind of shows up if you look at the map
Here’s one I’ve been working on. The grey giant is the old GG train line on the NYC Subway. It becomes elevated at the Smith-9th Streets Station, and Prospect Park is in its shadow. The whirring sound in summer could be either bicycles or lawnmowers in the park and cars abound all around Prospect Park.
Building on my last comment about the Nitehawk movie theater, is there a shot that Rocky III was playing in that theater at the time of the book release?
UPDATE I think I know EXACTLY where it is. Its in John Paul Jones Park……And the obelisk he references IS NOT the V…the V is actually the name of the Verrazzano Bridge. And what is a BRANCH of the V? Its one of the things extending off of it!! I.e. a CABLE!.
And in the park, what do you find? A cable from the actual Verrazzano Bridge! see here: https://forgotten-ny.com/2013/10/john-paul-jones-park/
Go find it in the park. Stand in the middle of it. Walk 22 steps east..and dig!! Folks say he gives exact directions? there you go. Couldn’t get any more specific.
btw…the natives/hard/ 3 vol….. its the 3 HARDCOVER volumes of Hamiltons Papers. 3 HARDcovered volumes of words, seen by the “natives.” Early amiercans. Founding Fathers!!
If you find it, please tell me. good luck!!
Here is a longer description as it appears my comments didnt get approved:
So, I just started this hunt last night…but I think I found it. Skip to the bottom if you trust me.
Else: the line most question about Hard words in 3 Vols. In my initial opinion, I thought it referred to the “Federalist Papers.” The NATIVES being the “founding fathers”. Hamilton wrote the Federalist Papers, yes……but not really…They were a collection of essays written by THREE people wrote them. 3 vols… 3 volunteers. Not volumes. Alexander Hamilton, James Madison, and John Jay.
And at the time, they were HARD words about anti-federalists…meaning the were HARSH.
But that’s not the clue. I was wrong.
What, then, is Hard Word in 3 vols?
The clue is that Hamilton published his works/papers in 3 VOLUMES…in HARDcover books.
see here: https://www.leftbankbooksny.com/pages/books/478/alexander-hamilton/the-works-of-alexander-hamilton
It literally is “hard” covered words published in 3 volumes..
Proof: look at the barrel of the wave in the image. turn it 90 degrees. Isnt that Hamiltons face?
Thus, the Hamilton clue doesnt mean much, beyond tell us that we are next to the bridge. John Paul Jones PARK is next to is, and it says its in HIS soil.
“rhapsodic man” is a logical play on the led zeppelin member. And its a park that shares his name.
Notice in the water in the image, there is a sycamore tree horizontally in it. Look in the park..those trees are all over. I had originally assumed the design of the bark on the tree would map exactly to the the image and that would be the correct tree near which to dig. I don’t think that is true now. I think its just a clue to show you are in the right place.
So lets agree that JPJ park where its at. But where?? Mere steps from the V, right? Read on.
What is the V? First, I thought this…. In JPJ park is a giant obelisk….. Its literally a 3d giant upside down ‘V.’ Seems pretty self-explanatory to me. That’s the V…RIGHT!?! WRONG.
Wrong V. There is another v in the park…read on!
In doing some research I came across one simple forgotten artifact in the park. And its the KEY clue to telling you where to dig..
The line reads like this (note: its important as to how you read it) “Take twice as many east steps as the hour, or more, from the middle of one branch of the v, and look down.”
The V is actually referring to the Verrazzano Bridge. The ACTUAL BRIDGE. BUT what is in the park that is from the actual bridge? Answer…a cable from it. And what is a BRANCH of the V? Its one of the things extending off of it!! I.e. a CABLE!
And in the park, what do you find? A cable from the actual Verrazzano Bridge! see here: https://forgotten-ny.com/2013/10/john-paul-jones-park/
In sum….Go find it in the park. Stand in the middle of it. Walk 22 steps east..and dig!!
“Take 22 east steps as the hour, or more, from the middle of cable from the Verrazzano bridge, and look down.” Simple roots, may simply mean “grass.”
Folks say the author gives exact directions to the treasure. there you go. Couldn’t get any more specific.
If you find it, please reach out and tell me. good luck!
On a side note..why would it be here? Because this is the park with the best view of the bridge. Its were newly wed cpls get their picture taken. And its where the US first fought the English. Its a forgotten park with an incredible amount of history. A perfect place to hide a treasure.
As proof, many have noted that the splash of the wave looks like an English lion. The English were first fought in the park. There is, in fact, a memorial to it there from the Daughters of Foreign War.
As further proof, the final clue is to look north at the isle of d: if we look north, we see the isle of d…liberty island. Thus, the statue of liberty and other imagery in the drawing.
Dana I have a solution for Image #12 and it’s fairly simple. I see the authors of The Secret as weaving America’s history, immigrants and baseball together. I believe this treasure box is located in NY at a baseball field. It’s interesting to note that Babe Ruth is buried at Heaven’s Gate Cemetery and the Statute of Liberty is portrayed in divine light. But all roads lead back to baseball, so I believe this treasure box is also buried at a park. This morning I wrote the council member in charge of the park to request approval for my dig. I’ve also sent another letter to Josh Gate with Expedition Unknown as I believe that my husband and I have located the site of 3 casques using a bit of armchair sleuthing. I wish all the detectives out there good luck! I’ll report back if I get approval for this dig.
https://youtu.be/hsJF-Irg3AY I can go into detail but I think this will sum it up nicely.
Today is the 167th anniversary of the naming of Bay Ridge, Brooklyn New York

K.I.S.S. reveal

How I read verse 10…
In the shadow of the grey giant (Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge)
find the arm (bridge deck) that extends over the slender path (The Narrows).
In summer you’ll often hear a whirring sound (Pigeon Park),
cars abound (intersection of 95th Street and 4th Avenue).
Although the sign nearby speaks of indies native, the natives (Native New Yorkers) still speak of him of hard word in 3 vols
(Fort Hamilton Library).
Take twice as many east steps as the hour (22), or more (several), from the middle of one branch (Fort Hamilton Library) of the v (vestibule). Look down.
And see simple roots (Gelston Fort Hamilton Free Library) in rhapsodic man’s soil (Carnegie), or gaze north toward the isle of b (island of birds).
My interpretation of BP’s wordplay…
‘Grey giant’ is the Verrazzano Narrows Bridge. ‘Grey’ because that’s how Canadian co-authors Kelly and Mann spell ‘gray’.
‘The arm that extends over the slender path’ is the bridge deck that extends over The Narrows, the tidal strait separating Brooklyn from Staten Island.
‘In summer you’ll often hear a whirring sound, cars abound’ is Fort Hamilton Triangle Park. Unofficially named Pigeon Park by the locals because of the expansive number of pigeons that live there. In summer when the babies leave their nests, they are fully feathered and the same size as adults. The ‘whirring sound’ is the sound that their wings make. ‘Cars abound’ because Fort Hamilton Triangle Park is basically a traffic Island between 4th and 5th Avenue, two extremely busy roads.
‘Indies native’, ‘hard word’, 3 vols’, ‘branch’, ‘simple roots in rhapsodic man’s soil’ (more on this later), also perhaps the image of a lion in the woman’s robe (universal symbol of library to every ‘Native’ New Yorker) is the Fort Hamilton Library (1- Fort, 2-Hamilton, 3 vols-Library).
‘Twice as many east steps as the hour’ is 22 steps, ‘or more’ is several.
‘The middle of one branch of the v’ is the middle of the library (branch) where there is a vestibule (v). This is important because there is a placard on the wall in this vestibule which I will discuss later.
‘Simple roots in rhapsodic man’s soil’ is what’s written on that placard.
‘The isle of b’ is the island of birds.
In 1981, Fort Hamilton Triangle/ Pigeon Park was basically a traffic Island paved entirely with cobblestones and covered, often literally inch by inch with birds. A Native New Yorker calls a traffic island, an ‘island’.
Furthermore, image 12 leads me to the exact same locations.
Let me explain…
Combined with JJP’s image 12…
The bird represents Ellis Island. Image 12’s bird’s head is a match with the eagles on the Ellis Island ferry terminal, however it has the body of a seagull. Ellis Island’s original name was “Kioshk” or Gull Island when it was purchased from the local Indian tribes.
The most obvious, the Statue of Liberty. Notice the hairline, it’s a match to the Verrazzano Narrows Bridge. Also the arched shape of the picture is a match to the Verrazzano Bridge tower.
So, Ellis Island to the Statue of Liberty to the Verrazzano Bridge.
I believe image 12’s church represents Brooklyn by its nickname, ‘The Borough of Churches’, and that the crashing waves represent the Brooklyn neighborhood of Bay Ridge.
In my theory, verse and image lead me down a short path only several blocks long. I begin at the Verrazzano Bridge at the end of 4th Avenue. I continue walking down 4th Avenue because the woman in image 12 is showing 4 fingers on her free hand.
I stop at The Roman Catholic Church of St. Patrick on 95th Street.
I realize this is not a Russian Orthodox Church like the one in image 12, however…
Perhaps the church in image 12 is a clever disguise. Instead of focusing on the architecture of the church’s exterior, I focus on the interior. After all, studying stained glass windows can’t be done from outside, it has to be done from the inside with the light shining through.
Inside the RC Church of St. Patrick I’m IMMEDIATELY struck by a blue bordered arch on the wall, the exact same shape as image 12.
In the center of the arch is a statue of Mother Mary in a comparable robe, and in almost the identical pose as the woman in image 12.
I’m further struck by the stained glass windows above her surrounding the church. The windows are not only the exact same shape as image 12, they also have dots/circles in the exact upper portion of the rounded arch, furthermore, those dots/circles are the exact same colors as they are in image 12.
What if artist John Jude Palencar used HIS archetype church, Saint Theodosius Orthodox Church, in his hometown of Ohio to represent the RC Church of St. Patrick in image 12? Visually, it’s a perfect match. And if he did, perhaps he drew upon the archetypes, symbols, shapes, and colors inside the RC Church of St. Patrick to create a large part of image 12. Perhaps Palencar’s secret within The Secret?
Exiting the church, I cross 4th Avenue to The Fort Hamilton Library (‘sign nearby’). The entrance door is a reddish brown with a limestone door surround that is a spot on match to the reddish rectangle framed in gray in image 12.
Through this door and inside the vestibule is a placard that reads…
‘In the 1880’s Mrs. Gelstin of Shore Road, with a capital of faith and 5 dollars, donated a collection of books to open the Fort Hamilton Free Library. In 1901 it became a branch of the Brooklyn Public Library, and in 1905 with a 1.6 million dollar gift from philanthropist Andrew Carnegie, moves to its new building. Fort Hamilton Library became one of Brooklyn’s first ‘Carnegie Libraries’.
Carnegie is probably best known for Carnegie Hall, one of the most prestigious venues in the The world of music.
Bingo! Simple roots in rhapsodic man’s soil.
From the middle of the library’s vestibule (middle of one branch of the v) I cross east on 4th Avenue. It’s EXACTLY 22 steps from curb to curb (twice as many east steps as the hour). I’m at Fort Hamilton Triangle/ Pigeon Park. Here there is an eagle-topped obelisk dedicated to local soldiers killed in World War I.
In summer you’ll often hear a whirring sound from the residents wings and cars abound from the busy traffic of 4th and 5th avenues. This small triangle park is similar to the shape of image 12’s woman.
Or more…Two or three steps from here I’m standing at an oval planter of grass and shrubs at the southern tip of the park.
The last line of verse 10 is the confirmer that This is my dig spot.
‘And see simple roots in rhapsodic man’s soil’ is telling me to look at the library from where I’m standing.
Looking at the library from here, I see 2 acorn shaped lights on each side of the door and an ornate streetlight at the curb. It’s a perfect match for image 12’s 3 ‘water droplets’, especially at night when they’re lit. Following the same optic, image 12’s ‘faceted jewel’ is literally IN the oval planter where I’m standing, representing the location of the casque. The angle and perspective are spot on.
Furthermore, if I ‘gaze north’ from this location, I’m looking directly at Fort Hamilton Triangle/ Pigeon Park (the traffic island paved in cobblestones and covered with birds), or ‘the isle of b’irds.
This oval bordered planter is my dig spot.
Combined with number play…
Looking at at image 12 , I’ve always been bothered by the asymmetry of the birds wings and the 5 panels over the 4 panels in the top of the arch.
The top of the birds right wing strikes me as unusual.
Why 4?
9,5 and 4??
So, where would Byron Preiss burry a treasure?..
I say, in my oval planter staring directly at a historic Brooklyn Library with the Verrazzano Bridge looming in the background, a location where ALL the features of image 12 are represented.
The church, with the statue of a robed Mother Mary framed in an arch, the arched stained glass windows with the exact same colorful dots.
The Fort Hamilton Library, with its rectangular red door and limestone door surround, with two lights, one on each side and the ornate streetlight at the curb.
Fort Hamilton Triangle/ Pigeon Park, with its eagle topped obelisk, and its famous ‘Welcome To Bay Ridge’ sign posted in the oval bordered planter, my dig spot.
All of these things are at one location…
95th Street and 4th Avenue, or as a Native New Yorker, like Byron Preiss would say…
9,5 and 4.
Respect ALL laws associated with The Secret.
Have you tried to get a permit for digging yet? If so any luck?
So the line “The natives still speak of him of hard word in 3 Vols.” has been very confusing to me for awhile. I did some online digging last night, and a lot of YouTube learning at work. I may have a more acceptable solve for the line, than what is out there. So the line before this one, we all accept as referring to Alexander Hamilton right? Well in the same time period we also had Thomas Jefferson, who along with James Madison, and Aaron Burr did not like Alexander Hamilton. Jefferson started to record all his meetings and opinions with George Washington. Princeton University archived all of these papers into 3 Volumes called 3. Volumes bound in Marbled paper. Notice how Marbled is capitalized and is also a very well known hard surface. It fits the line, and the time period with Hamilton. It could be nothing, or it could lead to a solve.

The city that never sleeps
New York New York, so nice they named it twice…
Thanks you 12 Treasures
In 1980 Frank Sinatra’s album Trilogy: Past Present Future was released with the Sinatra recorded song, “Theme from New York New York”, from the Scorcesse film of the same title performed in the film by Liza Minnelli. Sinatra’s version of “New York New York” became perhaps his most recognizable song, and the anthem for New York City.
How do we know that verse 10 is a match to New York City/ Image 12/ Statue of Liberty?
Reading verse 10, I can’t find any connection to New York.
So it got me thinking about St Augustine’s SELOY acrostic, and 12 Treasures New York Podcast…
Verse 10 Acrostic…
In the shadow
Of the grey giant
Find the arm that
Extends over the slender path
In summer
You’ll often hear a whirring sound
Cars abound
Although the sign NY
Nearby NY
Speaks of indies native
The natives still speak…
Line 8, the last letter (N), combined with line 9’s first letter (Y) is
NY.
Combined with…
Line 9’s first letter (N) combined with line 9’s last letter (Y) is
NY.
Granted, they’re not all caps however, in the St Augustine Seloy acrostic, every letter is cap for a proper noun.
For a writer/editor/publisher, BP sure had some strange notions when it came to capitalization.
Why are we not searching ellis island if the longitude and latitude matches that of ellis island. I’m not trying to ask a silly question but more along the theme of these longitude and latitude coordinates correlate to a more accurate dig location or a general placement in the city. Thanks.
I have identified 5 clues in the image and at least 15 lines in the poem… And it’s nowhere near NYC.
The assumption that that is the Statue of Liberty is wrong.
I believe that I know exactly where it’s at and am working on permission to dig, this weekend, hopefully!
I have now identified six clues off of the Image, as well as every single clue in the poem, and have done a virtual walk through and it all lines up in order.
Just waiting for permit to dig…
Hello,
I came across a documentary about this book and since I love New York history I thought I would take a look at the hunt that pertained to New York. Sorry if anyone has already suggested this, but I think the thing might be buried in the shadow of the Verrazano, with the arm extending of the path being the old armory which has many a battery that extend over slender paths. The sign about the Indies native would be if you were going to travel over the bridge to Brooklyn it says “Next Exit Fort Hamilton”. You would be looking north(ish) at the Island of Brooklyn. “Simple Roots”, could be the North and South Weed roads right under the bridge. Fort Tompkins was shaped like a V (see the wiki for that very wording). You’d hear cars from the bridge of course whirring. This one is a stretch, but North and South Weed Roads intersect with Hudson Road and the word rhapsodic can also mean confused and Hudson was lost and confused looking for that shorter path to Asia when he made his famous trip. The only clue I can’t figure is the man of Hard word in 3 Vols. Anyway, I’m not the type to go digging about and I am pretty sure there has been a ton of construction in that area since the thing was buried, but I do hope this helps someone.
what if its in Liberty State park
Aaron Burr and Alexander Hamiltons famous duel. July 11th. Weehawken.
With regards to this clue:
“Speaks of Indies native
The natives still speak
Of him of Hard word in 3 Vols.”
I took this clue in the literal sense, and think of the known Native Americans of this region, the Lenape.
If there’s any correlation to him being Alexander Hamilton who was famous for the quote “Hard words are very rarely useful. Real firmness is good for every thing. Strut is good for nothing.” I think this clue leads to something on or around The National Museum of the American Indian. It sits at the foot of Broadway in the Alexander Hamilton Customs House. Perhaps there’s a statue there that still stands.
Hard word in 3 volumes is often attributed to Hamilton having marble headstone and the whole 3 volunteers. My thought is that the ‘Indies Native’ refers to Hamilton, but the lines that follow with ‘Hard word in 3 Vols.’ would refer to Melville. Melville’s classic was first published in England as three volumes. Of famously written, “A man thinks that by mouthing hard words he understands hard things.”
On 6 Pearl St was the former statue and location of Melville.
One thing I noticed, was the dress, when flipped, looks more like Coney Island than Manhattan. Again with the idea that Preiss would have selected a park more secluded/out of public eye, I think that while most clues point to lower Manhattan and objects south of it, the casque location may very well be on the edge of Coney Island, where one could in theory view most of the clues.
Isle of B in any instance could really be a number of places, but most of my searching has led me to believe it is either Brooklyn or a play on words to mean Aisle of B, Broadway. Though if none of the other puzzles have had that kind of wordplay, then it might be best to ignore that idea, even though Broadway does create a v shape near Pearl Street and my original location being Bowling Green park, which has resided almost unchanged along with Battery park.
I genuinely believe this is located at or near Dante Park. Though belief is trumped by actual proof. I sadly cannot make it to New York for a year or so.
I would rather this be solved and will gladly discuss my idea and let anyone have joint credit if they are willing to go out and test the areas I have in mind.
how do i get in touch w you
i have a theory
Hey Guys, I am pretty new to this things and I have a very wild guess after looking through some small “islands” in central park. I might be completely wrong but who knows right 😀 I am not living in the US but if some of you newyorkers would be kind and check it out and IF so you happened to find something it would blow me away haha.
So back to the location. I have a very wild guess the treasure is either in or around(!!!) the middle of the Olmsted Flower Bed in central park near a tree(?) or a branch-y plant.
In the shadow
Of the grey giant (so here my guess is Crish Colombus which is one of the several statues around the flowerbed. He has an extended arm pointing towards one of the paths there)
Find the arm that
Extends over the slender path
In summer
You’ll often hear a whirring sound
Cars abound (basically this part of the park is next to Center Drive so i can imagine it’s quite loud when it is full of cars.)
Although the sign
Nearby
Speaks of Indies native (Umm yeah so my guess here is the indian hunter statue which is a little north west from all this but still in plain sight)
The natives still speak
Of him of Hard word in 3 Vols. (umm so this can be William Shakespeare with his 3 Vol. Set (The Tragedies, The Comedies, The Histories) idk why I think it is relevant but it just make sense to me. dont ask me how it’s related to the natives speak of it tho. His statue is right next to the flower bed tho on the right side.
Take twice as many east steps as the hour (based on the clock that would be 22?)
Or more
From the middle of one branch
Of the v (soooo here I have my most doubts. Going south from the above mentioned location can potentially take you the the “middle of the V” which can actually be the cross section of east drive and center drive. Based on google maps ( 🙁 i only have that to relate to) there are actually 2 trees and some bushes in the middle of the grassy section INBETWEEN the V shaped road like right in the middle. I would definitely check that out if I’d be in newyork haha)
Look down
And see simple roots
In rhapsodic mans soil (Okay idk about this one at all. there’s nothing rhapsodic inbetween the V but then again, next to Shakespeare you have the flower garden and he was quite rhapsodic? I guess idk.)
Or gaze north
Toward the isle of B. (Okay this is quite obvious for my sense of perception and you can think I’m completely stupid here but hear me out. The island is not really an island but The Bethesda fountain which is north from this place. The picture for the riddle literally represents the Angel of the Waters sculpture in the middle of the fountain(hence all the droplets and water and him standing in the middle), the bird represents it’s wings (if you actually look at the crooked bird wings it looks quite similar to the Angel of the Waters weird shaped wings) and the flower he’s holding could quite well mean the Olmsted Flower Bed which i mentioned above. Based on google maps pictured from the flowerbed, the same flower grows in the middle as he is holing on the picture. another clue. The full arc on the picture and the red door shaped thing represents the Naumburg Bandshell which is very close to all of these locations too.)
Conclusion. I am very tired, (it’s 2am here middle europe time zone). I’ve only been to new york once, lovely city, would love to go back there was so many things i missed and this is definitely one of them. I know I might sound really out of line here and maybe not even correct but I would love if one of you could look at that flowerbed and just see what I am seeing here 😀
Stay awesome guys and have a good one!!
Are you still looking at this
What about rockaway beach , Jacob Riis could be the guy , the slender path the marine park bridge as cars cross that it makes a whirling noise. The bottom of page is waves , the seagull in the photo from the beach
I think the isle of b is is isle of blessed realating to ellis island also the left bottem corner is outline of ellis island
I found the location in NY for both the picture and the verse. I need help on finding who to talk to directly.
Please Help
The natives still speak of him in hard word and 3 vols.
(There is an English 18th century hard word dictionary and 3 volume novels were standard forms of British publishing in the nineteenth century. Hamilton admired the British system, so this is to confirm that the indie’s native is indeed Hamilton.)
I’ve deciphered the entire verse and found the treasure, I need help with getting into contact with the proper people.
If anyone can help, please let me know
