*SOLD* Kushiel’s Chosen

“Kushiel’s Chosen”, Oil over acrylic on a true sealed gessoed panel (masonite).

Description: This is the 2nd volume in the long running series by Jacqueline Carrey. I was told that this was the earliest depiction of a tattooed woman on a mass-market book cover. While I can’t verify that, I thought it was an intriguing prospect.

In some cases I have had to ship the art to the publisher in a state of not being completed the way I had intended. Although it is fit to publish, my original intentions were not realized to my minds eye. Such is the case with the cover art for “Kushiel’s Chosen”. Since it was completed in oil I had to allow for drying and shipping. This is back in the day before we could transmit the high resolution files over the internet. The drying time had to be built in to the final art deadline. After it returned from the publisher, it sat for many years in my art storage racks. Recently I reworked the entire surface, adding more pattern in the curtains, refining edges & filigree in the dress as well as adding additional glazes. No part was left untouched. A fresh coat of varnish & frame completed the work.
