Way to go cw. I put $10 on MTB (but was talked into splitting the bet from 10 to win into 5 to win & 5 to place). This cost me about $100 but I still walked out with $400. Have never really gotten into betting on the ponies but figured what the heck. Not really sure what I liked about MTB but decided I liked him. It wasn’t until after I bet that I found out he was a fellow New Mexican. 1st NM horse to win the Derby.
If only Musket Man would have stretched his neck at the finish line…I would have had been paid there as well. Will definitely have to look into the Preakness
{and so it begins…..}

Your day is here again my friend so I thought I would muddle the boards with a meaningless thread for the fun of it.
I usually don’t bet the ponies but this year I think I will drop a few bucks on a couple of longshots. That’s the only way to make money if you are only dropping a few bucks.
My main pick:
Musket Man
Other pick because he is a HUGE longshot and there is just something about him I like:
Mine That Bird
So, hopefully come dinner time, I will have a nice little winning coming my way…..but probably, I will only be out a few bucks.
ps…I will be on the lookout for strange guys snooping around the infield with a metal detector and a shovel

Mine That Bird will be running the Preakness but I am really unsure of how he will do. One of the main reasons I bet on him & another longshot in the Kentucky Derby is because they were running 20 (19 after I Want Revenge scratched) horses. The more horses…the more likely ‘something’ might happen allowing a longshot his shot. In MTB’s case though, I don’t think it was anything the other horses may or may not have done….MTB just flat out flew down the track. That was the fastest I have ever seen a horse make up so much ground and run away with a race. I may just have to drop a few more bucks on him come Preakness…unless of course he ends up a favorite which he most likely will do.

congratulations fox!
i heard something like MTB was bought for 9500 dollars, and the others were million dollar horses !?
and something about the owner took him to the derby in the back of his truck???? sounds like a great story!

Yes and yes and yes….
The horse was bought for $9,500.00 and he sure showd those Million Dollar horses how to run a race. The trainer put old MTB into a horse trailer, connected it to the back of his pickup truck and hauled him appx 1500 miles. Not only did he do that….he drove with a fractured foot that he hurt in a motorcycle accident. While being interviewed after the stunning upset…this whole subject was brought up. He mumbled something like “Maybe the press has other things to talk about now” (like his winning horse) and walked away. You could tell he was obviously tired of being asked about how he drove MTB that far with his broken foot.
