Osmaster, you should post your suggestions/findings under the appropriate threads, so the discussion doesn’t become confusing just in 1 thread. But, it’s up to you.

– Look closely at the four stones above the plaque and the half stones. Also check out the white blotch above the plaque. The “water” spout from this angle is visible on the left wall.

Tell ur wife that dreams are what made this country great. That without dreams, we’d be nowhere. That mankind’s spirit was born to dream and explore and hunt treasure.

Osmaster,
Since you are familiar with metal detectors–do you think they would help with The Secret when the “key” is mostly clay?

I love positive thinking! Good luck!
Don’t forget something to chop roots (small axe?), or if there are no roots, you may want to bring a post hole digger.
Also, bring a toothbrush and some water, to clean off the million small ceramic pieces after you realize that the entire thing has caved in over time, and is now caked with mud.

Guidelines to follow. After 20 years – metal detecting laws are more strict – Here’s a good guide line to follow.
Code of Ethics
All treasure hunters might be judged by the example you set. Here are a few basic rules you should follow while using your metal detector:
Respect private and public property, all historical and archaeological sites and will not metal detect on these sites without permission.
Keep abreast of and obey all laws, rules and regulations governing federal, state and public land.
Aid law enforcement authorities whenever possible.
Do not willfully cause damage to property, including fences, signs and buildings, and I will always fill the holes I dig.
Do not destroy property, buildings or the remains of ghost towns and other deserted structures.
Do not leave litter or uncovered items lying around. I will collect all trash and discarded targets upon leaving a search area.
Observe the Golden Rule, conducting myself in a manner that enhances the public perception of the hobby of metal detection.
Cautions
Do not hunt in an area where electric lines, gas/water pipelines, bombs or other explosive or dangerous material may be buried.
Never trespass or hunt on private property without permission.
Treasure hunting is strictly forbidden in certain areas, such as (but not limited to) National and State Parks, Monuments, Military installations, etc. If you are not absolutely certain of the legality, check before hunting!
Be careful when digging where the underground conditions are unknown

Metal Detector / Dig Form Request form Letter.
Dear {Name or Organization}:
My name is
. I am
.
As per our previous phone discussion – I would like to request to search a small area (Describe area to seach). I feel that this letter would help assure you that this would be done in a very professional manner.
I’m writing to ask for permission to use a metal detector at (location) to locate an object.
– I would NOT be searching for a Historical artifact, or valuable.
– I would be recovering an item that has been buried on purpose in 1982. This item had been intended to be found at a later date.
– The items that I would be looking for ONLY are:
– A Ceramic Casque
– A Key
I would retrieve them in such a way that the ground appears undisturbed.
I want you to know that I will respect all property that I search and will leave it in the same condition that I find it.
For granting me this request I would like to offer (Organization) small donation (for this purpose).
Thank You.
