I like verse 7 for I7 check out my theory and let me know what you think. I probed the spot I hit things all ove but could not tell what it was. Would have to dig but to many people i chicken out on diging.

+1 to this! Follow your leads, and hopefully whenever more casques get found we’ll be able to narrow this down some. I spent last year working on pairing V5 with I2/Charleston, and now I’m starting to believe that V6 was actually meant for I1/San Francisco. That must be wrong, though, since it doesn’t line up with the solutions posted over on the Wiki site…

Actually about 10+ years ago – You would have been in the majority of people.
When I first suggested image 1 goes with 7 it was quite an uphill battle and many people thought v7/i7 was obvious.
after quite a lot of back and forth analysis and discussion. very few people disagreed.
Now it is a given i1 goes with v7
But of course nobody knows until a casque is found so you could very well be correct
go for it!

Hi Flacon, that’s a name I see a lot in here.
The search is such great fun, I’ve tried to tie the remaining ten verses to each of the remaining images, with some comical results.
Until (unless?) another casque is found, all sincere theories are sound, and I’m glad that there is still interest and a resource like this forum.

Maybe it’s just because I’m focused on the San Francisco hunt, but verse 7 seems like the “negative space” one that goes with whatever image doesn’t already have a verse that fits. Every other verse seems to contain one or more “clinchers”–numbers, names, quotes or dates–that make it hard to pair with a different image than the established conventional wisdom. Verse 7 has no such thing that I’m aware of. “Education and Justice”, “ace is high”, “air smells sweet”; none of it has been tied to a plaque, quote or slogan anywhere. It’s all maddeningly-general walls, sounds, poles and steps. Even the one solid proper noun, Twain, remains elusive. So pretty much, if every other verse is spoken for, we get the dud.

I don’t see it as a dud. V7 could be applied to a lot of the images. I’ve only visited SF once, briefly, so nothing in the verse really jumps out at me.
It’s oddly comforting to know that I’ll be long dead before all the puzzles are solved, if they ever get solved.

Actually it kind of happened the other way.. basically had to argue to get people to like v7 by the time that was obvious. we were able to place all the remaining verses
If you think there aren’t any matches here for v7 you really aren’t trying, the problem is too many excellent matches.
