I don’t mind helping people. I don’t even mind helping people run through their theory when it involves the fort.
But I refuse to dig there. I’ve offered to run a gpr over spots… And help set up digging requests. But digging random holes without parks permission is different.
The fort is sacred to my community, it’s the most important thing this town has.
It would have been different if it was a group of guys just running through a theory or something. If that were the case im sure I would have stopped and talked through it with them.
But when you have to walk past 15 one foot holes that are left uncovered… Something has to be said about that.
So Who am I to run a bunch of kids off? Nobody important. Just a random citizen who cares about his community.

I agree with burnstyle. Pretend the dig site is your front yard. Stop arguing and clean up your mess!

I agree and understand where burnstyle is coming from. While I am newbie on this forum, I am not new to the hunt.
I have multiple years of ass kissing invested to build relationships with park officials and police in Boston. When people dig in public areas and don’t clean up after themselves, that does nothing but strain those relationships. Officials are more reluctant to work with anyone wanting to dig at these sites, especially when they have to clean up a mess left behind from past hunters.
It is easy to accuse someone of having a motive when running people off in order to have the place all to themselves. I don’t get the feeling that this is what burnstyle is doing here. By all means, recover the casque if you can, just do it the right way.

Yeah. You know who you are. The group of you that I ran off tonight.
I know you read this because one of you had q4t open on your phone.
You left open holes in every God dammed corner of the fort and the retaining wall. I know because I filled them up.
There is nothing at the fort. Stop being assholes. Stop ruining the reputation of this hunt.
FOY has had to block it’s entrances which huge signs threatening prosecution because people keep climbing the walls at night.
There are open holes up and down magnolia street.
Have some respect for the cities and the parks that are part of this hunt. Our history is more important than a ceramic box

So… you ran them off so they couldn’t fill their holes, and you are mad cause they didn’t fill their holes?
PSA… must be old timer, and must ask burnstyle to dig before digging?
Gotcha.

This brings up a question I’ve had for a long time… if I dig a hole but then fill it back in… how is that environmentally? I’d think it maybe aerates the soil but idk I’m not a dirt scientist

You do have a point, but I’d say that if someone digs a hole, doesn’t fill it in, then digs another hole… 99/100 times they’re not going to fill that first hole

I’d say, who the f**k is burnstyle to be running people off.
Harsh… I know. But why wouldn’t burnstyle offer to help the diggers?

from the guy that admits in first podcast to committing “multiple felonies” in the process of digging around for these things.

As long as there is interest in the hunt, and as long as people think that a few hours with the book/internet is all it takes to KNOW where a casque is buried, we are going to have people digging in the wild. But as I’ve said many times before, that strategy is 0-2,653* since nobody (and I mean nobody) has been able to dig one small hole and recover a casque, ever. My suggestion to the serious hunters is to ignore the cowboys (cowpersons?) and continue to work the puzzle. If you have a definitive, well reasoned, fully supported (hint: if your solution depends on phrases like “I think” and “I see”, you are most likely wrong) solve and are willing to work with the proper authorities, my sense is that they will be willing to work with you. Because they know that ultimately, digging one up is the ONLY way to stop others from digging in the same city.

But of course if anyone didn’t “think” or “see” then we wouldn’t be looking for all the possibilities for the locations of the casques because they would have all been found 35 years ago.

Precisely correct. How do you think BP felt when it took 20+ years to solve Cleveland when it was basically a Polaroid out some guy’s living room window?

He felt like it was Greek to everyone.

It’s amazing what a tv show and a few days with a book can do. Now we have yahoos who obviously have no idea what they are doing because they keep digging more and more random holes. As burnstyle said, all this does is tarnish this hunt. You think we have problems now asking for permission? lol Sadly I think Expedition Unknown may just be the nail in the coffin. Let’s hope I’m wrong.
