In the shadow
Of the grey giant – Either the Whale paintings on outside wall of the NY Aquarium or the defunct Thunderbolt roller coaster
Find the arm that
Extends over the slender path – More than likely the parachute ride. It has a descending narrow path
In summer – Amusement park opens in Summer
You’ll often hear a whirring sound – sound of the rides whirring
Cars abound – parking lining the street or cars of the rides
Although the sign – “Himalaya” (see below)
Nearby – close but not right by the site
Speaks of Indies native – The base of Himalaya Mountains are in the indies and is also the name of a popular ride in Coney Island that was there for years (now closed)
The natives still speak – Native New Yorkers
Of him of Hard word in 3 Vols. – him – Hard word is a Hard sounding vowel: “A” and Laya…NY’ers call it Him-A-Laya with 3 syllables
Take twice as many east steps as the hour – 22 steps
Or more
From the middle of one branch
Of the v – there is a “V” garden in the concrete separated (branches) and would be more steps if you start from here
Look down -by the boardwalk
And see simple roots – plants/grass
In rhapsodic man’s soil – Sand! (facing south)
Or gaze north
Toward the isle of B. – Brooklyn behind you! Isle referring to Coney Island as a clue
Picture clues Left to right:
Pink dots – Himalayan sea salt
sand , water, sunset (from bottom to top)
Next 2 could be bubbles and markings on whales pics on the aquarium walls (I remember these from when I was a kid)
Bird is a Seagull – always all over the beach
Rectangle is the steeplechase pier – directly in front of the parachute ride
Onion domes were in Luna Park
And the clock is written in sand – sands of time
In the dress there is a half a mans face which was the logo of steeplechase park
The swirls in the water represent a “cyclone” like the roller coaster in coney island
Water spray resembles a polar bear – the polar bear swimming club swims in coney island in the winter

I’m glad you posted this! I’ve been wanting to soapbox against Tunneling for a while, and this provides the perfect platform.
Tunneling is Secret slang for where someone picks a location based on one or two matches, then cherry picks pieces from the location to match the location. It seems like a natural thing to do, and in fact it’s fun to find some exact matches, and get a thrill. However, 99 times out of 100, the Tunneler falls so in love with their spot that they make enormous logical leaps.
That’s bad because it utterly prevents anyone from combining forces to work on your solve. Might as well write your solution on your bedroom wall if it’s not able to create a group discussion.
What do I mean? Well here’s an example:
On a solution theory that has been vetted by its poster with logic, someone could say “Oh, that sand at the bottom of the image DOES look like Coney Island… specifically this part right here…” or they could say “that’s a different type of sand, Coney island sand is
But we can’t because… there’s no sand at the bottom of image 12 and the sun doesn’t set in the East.
If we’re going to stop Q4T from becoming a cesspool of theorists doing train-of-thought posts that can’t be molded into anything by the community, we’ve got to spend more time policing ourselves and looking at our own theories with a critical eye. It’s fun to feel good like we’re solving something by utterly ignoring discrepancies, but it doesn’t make for good messageboard posting.
Other cases of note. Sorry I’ve chosen yours to take to task, it could have been any of dozens of recent posts. I’m sure you have a lot more good stuff to contribute, as you seem observant. Just self-edit more, please, for the sake of the community, posting new threads that can be disproven with simple Googling makes the poster come off as a bit aloof to the experience of others and the hunt itself
How does a painting cast a shadow?
The thunderbolt had prominent red rails. Why wouldn’t Preiss say “the grey and red giant”
Where is the arm? What part of this says “narrow path”? Are you talking about how the tower itself is narrow? If so, how is a tower a path?
It opens on Memorial day weekend in the Spring… might not have been that way in 1980 but I can’t find any evidence
I’ve never heard India being called the Indies. Googling tells me “the Indies can be used to refer to the islands of Southeast Asia” I don’t see how the Himalayass can be on islands. Also the Hmialayans are at India, Pakistan, Nepal, Bhutan, and Pakistan… so I find “indies native” to be an impossible stretch even if it wasn’t on the other side of the world.
So “Hard word” is “hard vowel?” Word=Vowel?
Where do you get Laya from?
Why does it have to be Native New Yorkers that do this? Do non-native New Yorkers call the Himalayas something else?
What do you mean by “garden in the concrete separated?”
Where is this V garden
http://retrospect.sid-hill.us/moments_i … ney_06.jpg
Do you mean the bottom right? Surely we’re not calling W’s as V’s?
This would really help if you posted pics showing what you are talking about instead of requiring me to google everything.
Perhaps. Although certainly you can see that there are millions of other spots in new york where you can look down and see plants & grass?
Please elaborate!
“Gaze North toward the isle”… Isle is supposed to be Coney Island? But you siad it was on Coney island? How can I gaze north to it if I’m standing on it?
Also Brooklyn is north, but calling it the “isle of B” isn’t tricky wordplay to show coney island and something north that starts with B…. it’s just lying to the readers.
The bottom of image 12 is water, though?
The sun doesn’t set over the water next to Coney island, because the sun sets in the West.
Where?
Oh I can see that… interesting:
Okay, if you’re going to be brazen enough to post your theory as an entire new thread, please at least Google stuff.
What does this do for us in terms of getting us to a dig spot… as stated it just seems like randomly inserted wordplay
The dress face:
The Steeplechase Logo:
I don’t see a match at all. Why not include the smile?
A cyclone is winds above water. Swirls in water are either normal currents or a whirlpool.
I will give you the polar bear reference, though… Coney Island has the nation’s oldest polar bear swim club.
