“Shruikan 2.0” – reimagined, Graphite & pencil on Strathmore drawing paper.
I really went down the rabbit hole rendering the detail in this drawing. It is now the largest drawn dragon portrait.
The dragons on the cover paintings are larger, but this drawing in pencil/ graphite is the largest to date.
The dragon image fills this undersized mat – please refer to the unmatted drawing jpeg that shows the horns, scales and additional space surrounding the dragon. A new custom mat will have to be cut before this work is finally framed.
In the drawing, I restructured the snout and flared Shruikan’s
feather-like scales in a defensive posture… not unlike the barbs on a poisonous Tiger Fish or agitated Scorpion’s stinger.
The actual drawing’s dimensions are: 12” H X 8.50” W. I would mat it with a 4.00” wide mat (bottom weighted?) and a decent frame molding (2”+). This should bring the final framed dimensions of an estimated size of: 23” H x 20.25” W.
